After reading this article on Weegee, I started thinking about the concept of Noir and wondered about this question. "Does Noir exist as a current idiom or appear in a culture in America in 2008, and if so where might it be found?" [more inside]

Ok, here's a slightly odd one. Prompted by the recent FPP in the blue about the ancient photography lab, I got to thinking about the lighting in the basement "wet lab". This led to the question: if film doesn't react to red light, why are we able to take pictures of red things?

A number of years ago I had an MRI of my head to help explain sudden onset headaches I was experiencing. Thankfully, the problem went away, never to return, but I find myself in possession of a number of very nifty looking MRI negatives. So my question is, how to use them in an artistic manner? I'm looking for a mail-order photo developing service that will take 120 film. I love the concept of Snapfish, but they only take 35mm! Is there a decent service out there that does medium-format?

I have two rolls of exposed, undeveloped super 8mm film in my freezer right now. I want to have processing and a digital transfer done. I've done a bunch of research online, yet I can't seem to find a place that I would feel comfortable sending my film to that isn't astronomically expensive. Where can I have this done? Bonus if its in or somewhat near Chicago.

I just built a tiny pinhole camera that mounts onto a 110 film cartridge. The directions I've found call for using a coin to turn the tiny gear to advance the film. I can't get that to work really at all. Any advice? [more inside]

I have many memories of people in movies, cartoons, etc. who while taking a photograph with a view camera remained underneath the darkcloth while making the exposure. However, the film holder should be cutting off the light to the groundglass and therefore they shouldn't be able to see any image. Is this just due to the ignorance of the movie makers or is there some reason why they are depicted this way?

I while back I got some good recommendations on lenses to use for documentary style photography. Now I come to the Green looking for insight on color film. I'm shooting with a Nikon FM2 and a Canon Rebel 2000. The work is for a grad thesis film, mostly daytime with some scenes right after sundown.

I've suddenly decided that I am on the verge of diving headfirst into the murky waters of medium format photography. Any of you have any favourite cameras? Favourite brands? Favourite filmstocks? Rest assured, I will not be shooting weddings or yearbook portraits.

I just acquired an old Minolta 16 along with two rolls of B&W film. The film was in a sealed container with the expiration date marked May '78. Do I have any chance of getting workable pictures out of this thing? And is there something (longer exposure, or shorter?) one can do to compensate for expired film?
