An organisation I do some work for is hoping to show Cecil B DeMille’s 1927 (it may be the 1928 version, but I'm not sure, and for the purposes of this question it almost certainly doesn’t matter) film ‘King of Kings’ at an event later this year. All attempts to identify and contact the copyright owner (and we’ve made several) have failed.
Does anyone know who owns the copyright, or have a good source for this information that we may have overlooked?

I self-published a minicomic that someone now wants to adapt into a short film. Awesome! What issues should I be aware of?

I want to turn a short play into a short film. If completed, it'll be a low-budget affair seen at a few festivals and hopefully online; the play was first performed in 1990 and the playwright is still alive. How do I go about getting the rights to film his play, or see if I can even think about affording it?

Have you read or can you point me to any interesting articles about what will be the future of media like films/software/books given the way they are all being distributed online via torrent sites & the like. Will copyright go away or what? I am looking for INTERESTING theoretical speculations, not some person just saying the letter of the current law will be enforced or the usual doomsday-talk.

What's the best way to find out if a pre-existing work has already been optioned for an adaptation to a different medium? Specifically, if a film has been optioned for a musical.

A question of rights. Does anyone know the best place to start looking for film stills and the right to reproduce them in a publication? More specifically, if the precise frame isn't available, is it possible to take and use your own screenshot if the right credits/fees are paid?
