I want to see an independent film: The Polymath, Or The Life And Opinions Of Samuel R. Delany, Gentleman. While I live in Washington DC metro area and would go if showing nearby, I really would like to purchase this as a DVD. Does anyone know if it is or will be available in DC area or on DVD?

I just watched the DVD of Awake, and I'm going crazy trying to figure out what kind of camera Jack (Terrence Howard) uses throughout the film. It is all black and a bit old looking. I'm a bit of a camera nerd, and I have to know!

I submitted two films to Cannes. The next morning I noticed that the two DVD packages I prepared with the entry numbers and everything were still in my bag. Whoops! Looks like I sent them unmarked discs. The cases I sent them have my contact info and the envelopes I shipped them in have the entry numbers written on them, but the actual DVDs are completely blank. Should I send a new package or will that confuse things further?

(The original) The Shining: filmed on a 1.37:1 negative for display on a 1.33:1 TV or matting to 1.85:1 in theater (see 1, 2, 3 and many other sources). So why does my PC's DVD player grab screenshots at 1.50:1? [more inside]

I just went to a screening of The Five Venoms at my art museum's in house movie theatre, and the lady that runs the place said in a sort of an off hand way (in the middle of a reminiscence about the old days when they had first started showing kung fu films as part of their schedule) something along the lines of 'of course now with the satellite TV and DVDs not nearly so many people are interested in these pictures'. That sounded strange to me, because would have assumed that those two factors would have increased interest in that kind of movie. Does anyone have any insight or information about changes in peoples interest in kung fu films? Does that

I was visiting Blockbuster this morning whilst I was waiting for the bus and noticed a vast number of direct-to-dvd titles which I'd never heard of before but didn't seem half bad (based on packaging, cast, director, story). I'm signed up to ScreenSelect/LoveFilm (the UK's Netflix) and there isn't really a way to check for these things. Would anyone like to suggest some great films which went D2DVD? I don't mind anything and would include films which only received a London or Film Festival release. Region 2 only then please.

Burning DVDs: I want to get clips from (commercial and locked) DVDs and into a new DVD for class, with a menu system. I've seen this explanation, but I have a Mac (OS X, I could be convinced to upgrade to 10.4 if necessary). What's the easiest and/or best way to do this? [more inside]

I recently saw the first half of Best of Youth, and only the first half (the second half was sold out). I have to see the second half, it has lingered in my head, and by the time it is out on DVD in the US I will have lost interest, I'm sure. Any ways of getting my hands on a subtitled version of this movie? Help! [more inside]
