Serverfilter: My office is in the process of migrating to Windows Server 2003 for Fileserving. We constantly have issues with newly created files. Whenever they are placed on the server by a user, the immediately lose rights to do anything with the file. All other users attempting to access the files are also denied. This is just beyond frustrating. Any ideas what is happening and how to fix it? [more inside]

(2) Is it possible to do Printer Sharing without File Sharing in this setup? There have been many related posts, but I haven't found one that directly addresses the Home/Pro and print-only issues. Thanks.

I download loads of amusing.interesting pictures and videos that I want my non-geek friends to see. Is there a private peer-to-peer service that's easy to use and install, so that they don't get confused? And ideally the program doesn't need registration or payment, or be bulked out with IM etc! So, in a nutshell: simple, private peer-to-peer. Anyone? [more inside]

Everybody knows about music, warez, pr0n and movies. Everybody who reads AskMe now knows about comicz.
What else do you download from p2p networks? Not looking to get Matt in trouble here, so please no links to files / "sharing" sites, etc. I'm just curious as to what other sorts of media are being p2ped.

Tomato Torrent 1.0(v11) on OSX 10.3 - Why does torrent upload bandwidth go to zero anytime I enter any maximum upload limit? I've tried 8K/sec and 80K/sec and the upload just dies, goes to 0.0K/sec. As soon as I re-enter "0" or "no limit," upload resumes. I'd like to be able to throttle my uploads without killing them.

Private (closed-group) filesharing software? I'm thinking for 5-10 users, and it would be nice if it didn't require a dedicated machine -- just enter a list of our 10 IPs and it'll connect to whoever happens to be on. Encryption wouldn't hurt either.

If you were writing a new p2p application -- leaving ethical and legal issues aside for a moment -- which programming language would you use? I know Visual Basic and PHP, but neither is really any good for this purpose. I dislike things that require the user to install a big VM (.NET, Java) and find C++ a complete nightmare.

I am in a student residence that has recently shut down the ports that allow filesharing, and as such, the only file sharing program I can use is SoulSeek (I was just getting into "Sharing the Groove" too!!). Assuming I am using file sharing for (mostly) legal uses, is there anyway to bypass a firewall like this?
