I have two drives, and each folder has some overlapping music, some music that isn't in the other folder, and some corrupted files (due to fire damage), which is why I cannot just merge the two together and let the duplicates of one overwrite the other - I don't want to overwrite a 'good' song with a corrupted, unplayable version. Can anyone suggest a good, relatively simple open-source or low-cost file/client management program suitable for use by a small law firm? The software should be able to schedule/calendar, manage documents, track tasks/to-dos, and associate all of these things according to particular clients/matters. Something that syncs between machines is a definite plus, as is something that isn't a resource hog. We manage the accounting side separately, so that needn't be a component. [more inside]

Can someone suggest a Windows utility to search for non-duplicated files on different hard drives? I've got multiple hard drives with tens of thousands of files on them. Many are duplicates, but not necessarily in the same directories. I need to identify the files that are on one drive, but not on the other, regardless of their location in the directory tree. I've been a Windows user since 3.1; I'm comfortable with it, I know enough keyboard shortcuts to do without a mouse. Basically, I'm fluent. So why, when copying a large number of files(moving my music collection to a different external hard drive) can't I figure out how to tell Windows to copy only the new files, and skip the files already on the target drive? Is there software available that lets me use tagging (a la del.icio.us and Flickr) to tag Word (or other) files on my local computer? Here's the scenario. I am new to a job where I write a lot of reports. Although these aren't cookie cutter reports, it is often helpful to look at old reports when writing new ones. I would love to be able to organize them by overlapping themes so the collection of files is more useful to me. Instead of reinventing the wheel, I'd like to be able to plug in a few tag words and find just what I need. Can you help?

I have 2,028 zip archives and a problem that should be trivial but isn't for me. If I unzip them all with a batch utility and don't clear the path saved in the archive I end up with 2,028 directories each containing a single file. If I do clear the saved path I end up with a mess. I need either a windows utility or a perl script to do the following: [more inside]
