I just know I can't be the first person to ever do this, but I haven't been able to find an answer. I religiously back up my files from my local drive to my network every day, but it appears that yesterday, while I was in a hurry, I actually copied the files from my network drive down to my local drive, thus overwriting a very full day of work on one particular file. Is there anyway I can get back the version that was stored on my local drive or am I, as I fear, screwed? Also, when I try to search my local drive for all the files with the same extensions (*.as) in hopes that I actually just saved it in the wrong place, Windows XP tells me I have no files with that extension, even though I can see that I do. Is it possible that my problems are bigger than my own incompetence?

I'm looking for some software to be run under Windows XP that I can set to move or remove files which are past a certain date after specified intervals. I'm looking for a website log file analyzer. This is
not to display summaries or graphs, as in
this thread, but to examine the activity of individual IPs and get a handle on what kind of hacking attempts, leeching, and other abuse might be going on. I have direct access to logs (something that can DL them would be nice, too). The $100+ software I found isn't an option.

I need to edit some video files I've shot on my camera. The problem is that the camera's video files export as .MOV and I can't find a good entry-level Windows program that supports the file type. Could someone recommend either a program that will let me edit this file type, or a good freeware converter? And if I do change them over to .AVI, what are some recommendations for a good yet simple Windows video editor?

How can I transfer files to/from a Motorola V3 Razr and a new Powerbook if the Bluetooth File Exchange seemingly can't do it? It recognizes the phone, but can't see the internal structure of the phone's storage system. Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools has no Mac version. I can sync contacts and calendars with iSync and via Bluetooth, but I have a friend who has the same phone, but the inverse problem: he can transfer files with Bluetooth, but can't get the phone to sync contacts and calendars.

I am trying to transfer a large number of files (mostly word documents and excel files) from older Macs (G3s and one '02 iMac) to a Windows Server 2003. The problem is that most of these files were created several years back on OS 9.x and have file names with characters the server does not to recognize as valid. This then stops the transfer of all files, shutting down the whole transfer.
Short of going through 1,000s of files one by one to check the names are valid or moving each file over one-by-one, what can I do? Does anyone have any suggestions or experience?

Does anyone have any good picture/file archiving software? Specifically, I'm looking for a Windows or linux program that will do the following:
1) Support full and differential or incremental backups of directories (i.e.: just the ones that have changed since the last backup or the first backup).
2) Burn both CDs and DVDs (not using other packet-writing software).
3) Create normally readable, uncompressed discs (not blob files that can only be read by the same program).
4) Preferably, include an html preview of the whole backup set on each disc.
Basically, I think I'm looking for the exact feature set of
Archive Creator, but with incremental backups or "all files created since" features, which it does not seem to do.
