YANMD - but what is this mystery? And should I see a doc?

2 weeks ago, I thought I was coming down with a cold - one night, I started sneezing a ton & my nose started running. I went for a really intense sports massage the next morning and came out feeling very emotional & teary & tired. A few hours later I felt so tired and out of it that I went home - for approx 24 hours of vomiting & diarrhea and feeling awful. Complete with red rash on my chest. And then I was okay. Kinda tired & out of it for another day or so, but fine. No cold symptoms, even. I wrote it up to flu, or maybe food poisoning. THEN THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED YESTERDAY. What? [more inside]

Should my pediatrician have visited us in the hospital?

We spent Friday through today in the hospital with my 6 week old, who was running a high fever. (Everything turned out fine.) Our pediatrician is part of a bigger practice with a dozen other pediatricians, all of whom are affiliated with the hospital and are regularly at the hospital, on the same floor, to see new babies after they are born. Am I wrong to be bothered that none of the pediatricians (neither the specific one we see, nor any of her colleagues in the practice), came to visit/check on my baby the entire weekend? [more inside]

Illness in the US, but magically, no healthcare!

I just returned from West Africa and have a number of symptoms consistent with malaria - or the flu. I have no healthcare, through circumstances beyond my control (I'll elaborate) until May 1. When is it worth it to go to the doctor to get tested? How can I try to keep this from being a pre-existing condition, given that it may be the recurrent form? [more inside]

Is this abdominal pain something I need to go to the hospital for?

I'm experiencing abdominal pain, and would like a non-medical sounding board for how serious it sounds, and whether it's hospital worthy (given my almost non-existent lack of health insurance). You are not my doctor, etc., etc., but I'd like some non-medical advice about whether what I'm experiencing is something serious, or something that I can just push through. I think I have a low pain tolerance threshold, and I'm not good at gauging relative pain strength while in pain, so I'd like some perspective. I don't know which details are important, so I'm including them all. [more inside]

How worried should I be about my symptoms?

Should I be worried about this? I went to the doctor this morning to get checked out for cold/flu symptoms; I didn't think it was serious -- I just wanted to check that I didn't have H1N1, but the doctor told me that the treatment I'd been getting for prostatitis was "highly unusual for someone in their 20s", and he said I should immediately stop taking the antibiotic I'm on (Septra/Bactrim) because I might be having an allergic reaction to it, or possibly an autoimmune reaction. fever with torn ligaments

is it common to have a fever with torn ligaments? I had a bike accident three days ago and for some ligaments in my arm pretty badly. I took Vicodin and ibuprofen for the first few days but now I'm just taking ibuprofen. I was just about to take my next dosage, when i decided to take my temperature. It's 100.1. I don't feel feverish or weird. Could this just be the inflammation and/or healing process? It's also pretty hot in the apartment. You're not my doctor, but any insights are much appreciated.

My Thermometer Done Busted

Everyday, at random, I break out in the chills. It feels like I have a fever for a few minutes. It comes and goes. Some days it happens more than others. It's like my internal thermometer / hypothalamus goes wacky. I don't quite break a sweat but I get a little balmy. Does anyone else have this problem with regulating their temperature, and if so, what have you done about it. Is my thermometer busted, or is there something more sinister at work here.
