I'd like to have an envelope delivered to me here in Austin Texas, from Columbus Ohio, arriving by Wednesday at 8am, Fedex said they have something called "first overnight" sending tuesday, arriving by 8am Wed, but an envelope would cost 68 dollars. Any other cheaper options exist? I guess NO ONE works this sunday/monday?
Will FedEx or other package delivery services ever deliver a two day package in one day? If the capacity is there and there are other packages going in less time (one day) on the same route, would they ever fill that capacity by delivering early? [more inside]
I have a very important document that I need ship on Friday evening(I can't ship it earlier) from California and it must arrive by Saturday in Ohio. Of the three major shipping services(USP, FedEx, USPS) which one will be best opinion? Timing is critical and money is less important issue.

I'm moving soon (UK Home Office and God willing) from the US to England. I will be there for roughly 3 years, give or take, and am hoping that I can have a portion of my substantial amount of books there with me. Previous suggestions on shipping indicate USPS M-bags as the go-to choice, but USPS no longer offers anything but air service on media bags, pushing the cost to around $175 for 44 lbs. This is more than I want to spend. Ideas? [more inside]
We're about to move from Toronto to San Francisco. (Yay!) But we have to move our things. (Nightmare!) We live pretty lightly, and aren't moving furniture, so we're thinking the best thing to do is ship a big pile of boxes using UPS or FedEx. Any thoughts on which is preferable? I have the impression that FedEx can be a bit nightmarish when borders are involved, but have zero experience with UPS international shipments.

I am in Texas right now for the holidays, I have a package arriving to my apartment in Ohio which is very important (it will allow me to renew my drivers license). I am flying back to Pittsburgh this Sunday night, and I'd like to have the paperwork in Pittsburgh with me, otherwise I'd have to drive to Ohio to get the paperwork, and then drive back to Pittsburgh. I called FedEx and they said only the shipper (with a FedEx account number) can re-direct the package. I'm wondering what are my options to save me a trip of driving to Ohio and back. Can I ask my package to be held at FedEx in Ohio, and then pay for them to send it to me in Pittsburgh? Can I authorize a friend to go pick it up from the FedEx location instead of me and then have them send it to me? Are there any other options? Thanks for the help askmefi! Please feel free to ask me more questions if anything is unclear
My mother, who is getting on in years, lives in Acapulco and needs to apply for a Taiwan visitor visa (not a landing visa, which is automatic for US citizens). The problem is finding a secure way to send the passport to either Mexico City or Houston. Fedex has no office in Acapulco. DHL does have an office there, but their unhelpful web pages do not inspire confidence, and my inquiry about "prepaid envelopes" and pickup options to "mail a US passport" was answered with a slightly brain-dead request: "we need ur document weight and ur document outer package size." Seriously, has the US (or any other country) ever isssued an A3-size 2-kilo passports? My question: Is there any QUICK & SECURE way (avoiding DHL if possible) to send a passport plus a prepaid return envelope from Acapulco to Mexico City or Houston, Texas? Note that I am not in Mexico: I need to find a quick and easy solution for my Mom, who cannot get around easily.
A few weeks ago, a package was sent to my apartment from someone I didn't know in Chicago ( I live in California) They had my full name and address and I had never heard of their name. The package contained one cheap hairbrush with the tag still on. I assumed it was a mistake and forgot about it. There was no note. [more inside]

When a person chooses to send a package via UPS or FedEx, and s/he chooses not to opt for the premium one- or two-day delivery, will the carrier hold the package (rather than delivering it) at the nearest hub for a day or two to spite the tightwad shipper? In other words, if they could deliver it faster than promised without incurring extra expense, do they still delay the parcel's delivery so the service isn't any faster than promised?
