I'm looking for songs where the songwriter's courage of conviction is tested by fear of negative consequences. Know of any?

How do I let people love me? Will I ever outgrow my fear of intimacy? I'm in my late 20s. I'm scared of intimacy. Don't get me wrong, I'm not scared of sex. Won't think twice about a threesome, but am startled by holding hands. If a guy wants to get to know me more, compliments me, or crosses the line from being sweet to me to being sweet on me, I get super flustered. I stutter or look at my feet. I run away.

I have a fear that people will perceive my intentions as the exact opposite of what they really are. I'm scared the people who I feel friendly towards will perceive me as hostile, rude, or uncaring. I worry that those I love the most will think I don't care. What the heck is my problem? And what can I do to straighten myself out?

How do I deal with the fear of a painful medical test that I'm having in two weeks? The pain will be intense but short in duration, under 5 minutes. It's a simple procedure, done in the doctor's office, and afterwards I'll be able to do my normal activities and probably won't have any lingering sensations or discomfort. And yet, I'm having trouble summoning up the courage to go through with this, to the point where I'm becoming paralyzed with the fear. I would appreciate suggestions or anecdotes about how you overcame medical fear to do something you knew you had to do.

Certain songs bring out memories for me and that's normal. But sometimes, I hear a song that I listened to during a particularly bad time in my life and I'm afraid that I will re-live that time, or even more stupidly, that I will re-experience it. How do I stop doing this to myself? There's some great music out there that I'm withholding myself from.
