I'm in a difficult life situation, in addition to which I am having some problems with ADHD, depression and anxiety. I'm insecure to the point that I cannot accurately assess my situation, and frozen with fear.

Tell me your experiences getting over fear or discomfort with dogs. My wonderful brother, bless him, loves me, but fears dogs. But now I'm getting a second one (German Shepherd puppy), the breed of his nightmares, and he is struggling. He's told me himself he wants to get over it, and I'm sure exposure and puppies will help, but I'd love to hear your own experiences and anecdotes getting past this.

We have a Ford E150 van (2005) and are driving from Utah to Oregon. The last time we made this trip in we had to put on chains when crossing the blue mountains around 2003 (via I-84).
Should we get dedicated snow tires this time around?

I like to think I am a reasonable, science driven individual. I’m not religious nor particularly superstitious. But something about the upstairs of my house creeps me out against all reason or logic. I hate this and want it to be different. Help!

How do I let people love me? Will I ever outgrow my fear of intimacy? I'm in my late 20s. I'm scared of intimacy. Don't get me wrong, I'm not scared of sex. Won't think twice about a threesome, but am startled by holding hands. If a guy wants to get to know me more, compliments me, or crosses the line from being sweet to me to being sweet on me, I get super flustered. I stutter or look at my feet. I run away.

How do I deal with the fear of a painful medical test that I'm having in two weeks? The pain will be intense but short in duration, under 5 minutes. It's a simple procedure, done in the doctor's office, and afterwards I'll be able to do my normal activities and probably won't have any lingering sensations or discomfort. And yet, I'm having trouble summoning up the courage to go through with this, to the point where I'm becoming paralyzed with the fear. I would appreciate suggestions or anecdotes about how you overcame medical fear to do something you knew you had to do.

Our dog has become traumatized by the recent fireworks (I'm in the US, obviously) and is afraid to go outside at night. Even when he is taken outside he doesn't do anything - this results in late night indoor poops. What can I do to get him going in the backyard again?

Help me not descend into extreme paranoia. Last night a male intruder approached me in my back yard. Police came and "caught" him. I have always been on the fairly cautious/paranoid side of personal security so I am afraid this incident may spiral downward to a place I do not want it to go. Any thoughts? (Longer story below)
