Melatonin supposedly works for jetlag. Fasting supposedly works for jetlag. Can I use both of these together, and if so, how?

I'm sick of going to sleep at 8am and waking up at 2pm due to a messed-up sleep cycle. I read/saw today that you can re-set your sleep cycle in just one day by fasting for 12-16 hours before the time you want to wake up. Has anyone tried this? Does it actually work?

How can I keep my kitty from bouncing off the walls while he’s fasting?
My 12-year-old cat Marty must fast Monday after 8 p.m. in preparation for teeth cleaning (and the requisite anesthesia) Tuesday at 8 a.m. (Sorry to fall down on the picture mandate – he’s all black, so taking a recognizable photo of him is … not easy!)

I'm curious about trying regular fasting for general health (not weight loss nor spiritual reasons) but I'm finding a lot of woo.

Is it stupid for me to get a cholesterol blood test the Friday morning after Thanksgiving? My doctor instructed me to fast for at least 7 hours prior to the test, but I just read something else online that said I should fast for more like 14 hours, and not drink alcohol for 48 hours prior to getting the test.

A good friend is attempting to do a fasting/exercise regime where her main goal is to lose 1-2 pounds per day for at least 2 weeks by not eating anything and doing a lot of cardio everyday. I have personally (and constantly) argued against this as it is clearly unhealthy but she seems to be set on doing this. What can I do or recommend so that she doesn't cause serious damage to her body?

I am Muslim. I will being fasting in two days. Fasting will be from dawn til sunset. I have never fasting in the month of August. Days will be long. Dawn will be at 4am and sunset at 8.45pm.
What should I eat to keep myself satiated? I was thinking something like clam chowder at the pre dawn meal?? What about drinks? Hot or cold?
Also, does anyone know what to eat at sunset to break the fast?
Any foods I should keep away from? Drinks?

I've had some success fasting. Initially this was for weight-loss but I also felt much better -- more energy, and my sinus problems went away. The trouble is that it's hard to do well. Do you know of any good books or web resources that explain fasting techniques? I'm not interested in "detox", whatever that is, and this seems to pollute web searches making it hard to find genuinely useful information. For me, this is more of an overall wellness thing.

How much should I eat in the days prior to fasting for a colonoscopy? My procedure is 2:00PM Tuesday (groan) so I'm being told "no solid foods after midnight Sunday night." I'm dreading working all day Monday with no food and then having to go all morning/early afternoon Tuesday. Does anyone know if it will help reduce the hunger if I gorge on Saturday and Sunday, and whether or not there are reasons not to do so.

"Within 24 hours of curtailing food intake, enzymes stop entering the stomach and travel instead into the intestines and into the bloodstream, where they circulate and gobble up all sorts of waste matter, including dead and damaged cells, unwelcome microbes, metabolic wastes, and pollutants." [cite]
Could this possibly be true? I know that eventually the body will start metabolizing itself, but is the process selective in its initial stages to only metabolize "waste matter" and not healthy tissue?

Fasting. I'm healthy and have a normal weight, but I've been overindulging lately and thought of trying a two day fast. Can you juice fast without a juicer? What about just eating nothing but fruits, veggies, and water for a few days? I'm not considering it for spiritual reasons either, I just feel gross. Any experiences or advice?
