I recently bought a relatively cheap men's sport/dress shirt that I love, but while it fits perfectly around the neck and chest the cuffs are about 1/2 an inch too long and there's just a bit too much fabric in the sleeves for my taste. What would I want to ask a tailor before having them alter my shirt, to ensure they wont mess it up/make it look bad?

I have
this dress, and while it fits well at the waist and through my ribs and I've worn it before, it squishes my 30F chest in a way that does not look flattering at all. There is not enough extra fabric to let the dress out, and I can't buy a larger size. Whom in Seattle can I trust to do a
great job at converting the zippered back (all the way to my nape, with mesh fabric upper half) to a lace corset back? Any other ideas?

I am a male in my 20's, and I get the same things done every time (shirt sides taken in, coat sleeves taken up, or pant legs hemmed up). Does anyone know of an affordable, quality tailor in Richmond? Every time I call asking for an estimate, they tell me to bring my clothes in to get an estimate. I would waste time and money driving all over town!

PhillyPhashionPhilter: I want to get a suit altered to make me look as snazzy as possible for some coming graduate school interviews... does anyone have any favorite tailors in Philadelphia (preferably West Philadelphia/University City) who can do affordable men's suit alterations? Thanks, fashion-conscious MeFites! <3

I'd like to give someone a gift certificate to a custom tailor. Please recommend a good one in New York.

How do I get pants, skirts and dresses that will compliment my large hipped, small waisted figure? Both chains that specialize in this and tips for what to pick so I could bring it to a tailor and anything else you've got to share are all accepted gladly.

I'm a big guy and I'd like to get a dress shirt with French cuffs. Are there great online sellers for shirts like this, or perhaps you know of a better brick and mortar shop around Maryland/Washington, D.C. that can help me out?

It would be great if people could share their favourite suppliers/retailers/tailors for affordable, quality shirts. I'm talking about shirts which are either interesting, different or vintage. I'd be especially keen on those with detachable collars - this was in fact the reason for my asking the question.

I'm at the point in my career where I'll need to buy more business attire. I've had a little trouble buying off the rack stuff that fits well, due to my build (athletic, but stocky, rather thick-necked. 10 years of rugby will do that). So I'm curious about tailored clothes What can I expect? In what price range should I expect to pay? Are there some things that just aren't worth seeing a tailor for?

ClothingFilter: I need to find a tailor to make some alterations to an expensive sportcoat. The retailer I bought it from only does alterations to new items, and their tailor works for them... I've always had good experiences with that tailor, but the other things I've gotten done (through the place that dry cleans my clothes) really sucked. How can I find a good tailor besides trial and error?
