I've seen lots of TV shows where someone will get a guy up to speed with grooming, help him come up with a "style", take him to the right cosmetics people, hair stylist, etc. I want this overall service too. Do these sorts of people exist in real life, what are they called, and can I find one here in the UK? [more inside]
I'm looking for some awesome blogs that highlight men's wearables and accessories. [more inside]
Hi guys, Where can I find cool sewing patterns? Beginner, and I don't want to look like your grandma. [more inside]
Clothing experts! I have a trivial problem. The hem of my button-up shirts -- the hem on the non-button side -- always folds over on itself. How do I make it flat again? It's happening to all my flannel button-ups, seriously jeopardising my aspirations to lumbersexuality. Pic below. [more inside]

I've come across a website exporting used silk and rayon saris from India. A few seem in poor condition, or have some obvious stains. But some appear pristine. My question is, one, is there not a market for second-hand saris in India? Two, what renders a sari unwearable, apart from stains and rips and obvious wear? Like, would you not be seen dead in a fabric pattern from 5 years ago? And three, would you not want your mother's or grandmother's vintage silk saris, and if not, wouldn't somebody else? I can't understand why it makes economic sense to export this stuff: the garments on the website seem too cheap for 5 yards of vivid silk, even if the buyer has to discard portions of it.
I'm looking for a pair of climbing pants with specific requirements available in the US. More details to follow. [more inside]
So I'm aware that MeFi is probably the wrong place to ask this but you amazing people have surprised me before! I'm looking for the best-of-the-best fashion agencies in Paris, Milan, L.A., and London. Requirement: must represent talent, like hairdressers, stylists, etc. I am not looking for a modelling agency. More over the fold. [more inside]
Emily Balcetis did a TEDx talk about exercise, and all I could think about was how awesome her dress was. I tried as many searches as I knew how, but couldn't find it. I'm looking for any info, maker/designer/brand, store, type, facimile, pretty much anything would be interesting to me. Thanks!
Where can I find websites/blogs that feature Parisian street style? [more inside]
For $December_Holiday I got what I think is a Jack Spade Commuter Nylon Site Messenger bag mainly because I've been waffling over which new bag to get for the past two years. It was purchased from one of their NY stores so I can pretty easily exchange it for a different one, my one concern is that it has a fairly chunky zipper across the rear. I know I can't put anything like an ipad inside because the zipper isn't covered on the inside and it will scratch it, so the rear compartment is useless. Do you think a chunky zipper will wear through my jacket/shirts/pants as it rubs? Or am I making a big deal out of nothing? [more inside]
Until I loose that last 30 pounds from having a baby I got a bit of a belly and butt to contend with. What clothing can I wear that doesn't make me look like a sausage? [more inside]
I've seen a few articles about dresses, clothes and other structures designed by algorithm: you input a shape (a scan of a body, a 3d model of a dress, etc), and the algorithm reduces it to a mesh of triangles. These triangles can then be cut out of fabric and stitched together to make an odd-looking but well-fitted garment. What's this technique called? Is the software freely available? [more inside]
Which shoes with this dress? [more inside]
I wear my puffy down vest everywhere in the (San Francisco) wintertime. It feels comfy and cozy, but it balloons out and puffs up around the sides for a "winter sports" look that makes me look much larger than I am. I'm looking for a down vest with a more polished and fitted look. Can you recommend some down vests that are still warm but cut to flatter a woman's body? Price range < $170. [more inside]
I'd like to replace the buttons on my women's winter coat to change/elevate the look a bit (I've done this on jackets before). Is there a particular brand (or shop) of button that has a great reputation? Any I should avoid? Do you have a dream button? Anything I should watch out for, aside from obvious things like "make sure they fit the button hole"? Thanks!
I am the world's WORST accessorizer. It is known. Last time I wanted to up my fashion game, Mefites were super helpful. Can you do it again, in a Partner's-Holiday-Office-Party flavour?! (Seasonally appropriate) snowflakes inside! [more inside]

I have no idea how to find this belt. I assume it's crocodile, or alligator?
Ms. Justice would like to buy a few stylish, professional-looking scarves to dress up and add a splash of color to her business suits and jackets. One difficulty is that many scarves are just too big, giving the impression when worn that one has a small tablecloth draped around one's neck. Can you recommend some upscale, not overly flashy, scarf vendors who sell product suitable for professional office wear that is relatively small and thin?
Please help me select, buy, and actually wear accessories/jewelry that look great and make me happy—from scratch. I need best practices, inspiration photos, or just that One Weird Trick that makes you look great and put-together every day. Go! [more inside]

I really love these boots, but they're a bit more than I can or want to afford to spend on them right now. Anyone have suggestions for similar style boots that aren't quite so hard on the wallet? Some loss in quality/longevity is ok, as I won't be actually working in an iron mine with them.

So I need a new everyday purse and I think i'm sooo special that none of the already answered questions will do. I've spent hours and days searching and am turning to you for help. I am looking for a small bag with a short shoulder strap that is structured enough to bring to a nice dinner but not too fancy to be dropped on the floor. obnoxious branding need not apply. More details inside! [more inside]
Between a recent fire at my apartment and a mix-up with the cleaning crew, all of my clothes are now gone except a few things I picked up at Target with a giftcard from a friend. Another friend was amazingly generous enough to send me $200 to help rebuild my wardrobe, and I am trying to figure out the most satisfying way to do so. [more inside]
Hi, I'm looking for a magazine or website that sells clothes that are new but have an old fashioned look. [more inside]
Hey folks I'm a reasonably fit male, 5'10" with a 32-34" waist and enormous thighs. Finding good pants is always problematic - typically they get around my trunks and are completely loose around my waist. I've had the best luck with Lucky brand jeans, but there must be more pant options out there. I try to dress casual chic - any tips, tricks or brand recommendations would be appreciated.

My boyfriend is a clotheshorse and is a big fan of sexy undies in particular. I have no fashion sense whatsoever, but I would like to spend $25 or less on saucy & fashionable underwear as part of a Christmas gift to him. His favorite colors are Pantone 138, Apricot, and Pantone 1665, Carrot. He is fond of zany patterns & designs that might traditionally be considered "loud." Halp!
Say I choose to live my life as a (superficially) middle-class educated man from the late 1920's USA, but, you know, with internet and healthcare. What fashion magazines/articles/pictures/blogs do I model myself after? What interior design resources inspire me? What kind of accessories do I use? [more inside]
I love this bag, but it's made from PVC, not leather. Is it a knockoff of another, higher-quality bag? That I can buy? [more inside]
In my distaste for brands I tend to remove tags from my clothing, but in one case this has backfired - I found a brand of jeans which fit me perfectly. Sans tag, all I have to go on is the imprint on the buttons. It's a shield with a pointed demon tail (tangential ask: what is that pointy thing called and where does it come from?). Can you ID my jeans? Here is a photo.
I'm in the market for this new watch. I toured the Shinola factory over two years ago and I was really enamored with the whole thing. So this is not an impulse purchase. I've been thinking about this for awhile. My apprehension is: I am aware that Shinola is owned by Fossil and many people think the 'Detroit Made' marketing is all hype. This very well may be true, but I couldn't help but be personally touched by the whole experience when I visited the factory. That said, I don't know much about watches and want to make sure I'm really getting a quality look and price/value here. Plus, I haven't found many reviews (at all) about Shinola online. If you'd recommend NOT buying this watch, I'd appreciate if you could recommend an alternative. What I'm looking for is a basic white, round face with date, larger face, with a leather strap. I'm 30 work in mid-management in a casual office so an everyday, slightly dressed watch in < $600 price range is the target. Oh and please do not say, Apple Watch. Thank you!
Mefi ladies? What are you wearing with your leggings? Really, where are you getting cute shirts that cover your butt and shoes...well probably not sneakers. [more inside]
I saw this leather jacket (and scarf, although a friend swears it's a sweater) on Tumblr but sadly the original poster didn't cite the source and doesn't have an ask box so I cannot ask him/her directly: [more inside]
I love wearing tights, but the ones I just bought are a magnet for cat hair. Have you found any that aren't? Does the amount of polyester in the mix make a difference?
At the ripe old age of 37, I've decided I'd like to look more put together and explore wearing clothes that aren't my usual uniform of "jeans, add t-shirt; in case of winter, add sweaters." But there are always snowflakes. [more inside]
I am a male academic. I try to dress modestly well (typical outfit: sport coat, button down shirt, tie, trousers), though I am a novice at doing so. What should I wear over top of my sport coat in winter that will keep me warm, look nice, and still allow me the range of motion required to ride my bike? [more inside]
I know I could just ask y'all (and I might), but-- is there some sort of fashion-oriented online community where people are hip and helpful, where I could post the relevant information about myself (build, taste, lifestyle, climate) and say "build me a minimal wardrobe for the fall?" And then they would have fun putting together a handful of links for me, and I could get dressed and look sharp and not have to think about it? [more inside]
