I'm looking for a pair of sleek, fashionable women's shoes that I can have reshod when necessary so that I don't have to mourn the loss of another pair of favorites. I generally wear ballet flats, and am searching for a pair in red or black that are >$300. [more inside]
I love vintage/pin-up styles, and 1950s style fashion is what suits my body type. Great. I am going through a stage of convincing myself I want to keep my long hair rather than cutting it all off by trying to style it more and incorporate pin-up and vintage hairstyles to go with the fashion. Can you recommend some clean-lined, fashionable women's shoes or shoe brands for a business casual environment? [more inside]
Please keep in mind that I don't mean random novelty items like the ones in ThinkGeek or any shop in Etsy, but websites that provide quality stuff in any of the following categories: home/decor/kitchen, stationery, clothes, accessories, beauty/skincare. [more inside]
I'm staying in Milan until Tuesday evening, and I'd like to pick up something for a close friend's birthday while I'm here. I can't spend a huge amount of money (maybe $100-$150 max), but I'd love to get her something unique from Milan. She's kind of a fashionista, and she tends to have an Anthropologie-esque style. I'd be looking for something like a blouse, dress, unique accessory, or personal product. Where should I go? Any specific suggestions and/or products you can recommend? Thanks!
Young professional woman seeking pants that fit. Caveats and such below the fold. [more inside]
I've been looking for a winter cape FOREVER and when I saw the Joanna Newsom video this morning I got super excited. Anyone know where I can find it or something similar. Yes, I'm definitely interested in similar items too! [more inside]
Around 1996 I bought a dress from a mall store (Express or similar). It was short-sleeved, ankle-length, comprised of two or more layers of sheer, silky, solid-colored pastel fabric, and the style was that you would knot or tie up the top layer to reveal some of the bottom layer underneath. I can't seem to find a picture of it anywhere online - can anyone find an image of one of these dresses?
I've been into fashion for awhile, but I have yet to really learn much about makeup outside of bb cream, bold lips, and cateye eyeliner. I want to develop a more versatile daytime look for my (soft autumn) coloring/look. (Blonde hair, hazel eyes, warm + fair skintone.) [more inside]
I like cheap tshirts. When they get ruined during lab work (tiny holes seem unavoidable!) Or playing with my toddler, I am not sad. But my standard cheap tshirt haunts (Target/Khols) have predominantly see through cute tshirts. Why are basic v neck shirts see through now??? Any tips on stores/brands where one can still find a basic tshirt that doesn't reveal bra color?
I'm looking for a pair of shoes/boots that will effectively function in as many different environments as possible: walking, hiking, sun and rain, dressing up for more formal occasions. (I'm a traveler and I only have room for a single pair of shoes in my life.) Comfort is a huge priority; I want them to feel as cozy as house slippers. Waterproofing would be a welcome bonus but not essential. [more inside]
I need to build a small set of work clothes that I can combine and re-combine. Unfortunately, since this is retail sales(with attendant conservative clothing policies) , there are some severe constraints in place. Feeling creative? [more inside]
I have this beautiful polka dot swing dress with a very full skirt, and it's probably my favorite dress. The problem is, the fabric's texture causes the skirt to stick together and bunch up when walking. [more inside]
I need men's shoes that are both great for all-day walking and look stylish. [more inside]
I'm in the very early stages of researching and writing a knitting project guide. What books can you recommend on the topic of learning to dress well? I'm looking specifically for books that help people of either gender plan, and possibly even make, a functional, flattering, stylish wardrobe. I have asked a very similar question of AskMe before, but that was 10(!!!) years ago and so many more style guides have come out since then.
I need a crossbody, leather, slim bag which can contain a 13-inch Macbook Air, a cellphone, a woman's wallet, and hopefully a paperback book or something of equivalent size -- and this object needs to be sleek, femme, and suitable to be worn with a fluttery gauze dress or the local equivalent. It'd be nice if it was red, but that's not required. Where is my bag? [more inside]
...is our ability to accessorize. I am wearing this dress to a summer, semi-outdoor wedding, but the only thing I know is that I'm wearing this dress, basically. Help me figure out the rest of it, please! [more inside]
I'm wanting to look more put-together and stylish for work. I work in a government office, live in a moderately cool climate (daily maximums from 10 to 40 degrees C), am 32 and female. Please help me do better! [more inside]
I've read many of the previous questions on this topic, but none seem to be looking for exactly what I am: stylish, professional, closed-toe flats with a pointed toe that I can walk in for miles without getting heel blisters. More obnoxiously specific criteria inside. [more inside]
I found a bikini I really like here. The problem is it is a Walmart exclusive brand and for various reasons I really don't like shopping at Walmart. Help! [more inside]
I recently caught up with an old friend who's developed a lot of horrible opinions about women's presentation and I didn't know how to deal with it, please advise! [more inside]
I want to buy a nice suit. My top priorities are ethical labor and reasonable price (and yeah, I'd like it to look good). Moderate complications: I'm a masculine woman who wants a "man's suit". Additionally, I'm looking for another suit for my tween daughter, but cut in a "mannish femme" style (think Annie Hall). [more inside]
I am a mid-thirties woman whose professional style is currently somewhat girlish (think this, this, this, this). As I move into my '40s, are there looks that keep this "feel" but in more age-appropriate ways? [more inside]

I need fashion role models that are stocky and/or balding men. Bonus points if they are also weirdos and/or freaks. [more inside]
Hey hivemind. I saw this video, which starts with a Japanese woman wearing a rather particular type of robe, while at a kotatsu. It's somewhat reminiscent of a kimono, but big, comfy, padded cotton? Sort of like a wearable comforter. Anyone know what these are called / where I might find them? ... or, if necessary, a pattern for them?
I have an interview for a legal counsel position at a Silicon Valley tech company on Wednesday, and I've been advised by the recruiter that the dress code is "business casual, sport coat appropriate." This seems fairly specific, but dress codes are often a foreign language to me. Can you explain what I should wear - and ideally, do so as if you're explaining to an alien with no knowledge of men's fashion? (I exaggerate, but only a little.) Like, it's crossed my mind that I can simply wear a suit without a tie, but maybe that's horribly wrong? Thanks.
Hi all, I have super flat feet and have had reconstructive foot surgery. The only kind of shoes that are comfortable for me to wear for long periods of time are motion control-type running shoes. Are there any non-sneaker shoes with similar construction and support? [more inside]
I have a pair of wedge slingback shoes and the sole is separating from the wedge. I ADORE these shoes and want to fix them. [more inside]
So, I'm a mid-30s genderfluid person who would like to start dressing in a more masculine to androgynous manner in a business casual workplace. Complicating factors? I've got an aggressively female body, short with hips and boobs that can't really be minimized, plus I am a fattie (US size 20/22) and slowly shrinking). So what the hell do I do with that? [more inside]
What is the next step up, mainly in terms of quality and price, from Vans slip-ons that are similarly minimalist styled and comfortable enough for everyday wear? Looking for good quality, long lasting, simply-styled, slip-on men's shoes. [more inside]
Can anyone identify these shoes? Or a style of shoe that looks identical? Doc martens look kinda similar but not the same.
As a woman in her early-mid 30s I'm finding that my old standby clothing sources no longer really work for me, but I have no idea where to go from here. Everything seems to be either too young or too old, and the current silhouettes that are in vogue are absolutely the LEAST flattering to my figure imaginable, so more trendy places seem to be right out. Where should I be buying my casual dresses these days? [more inside]
There are just so many on the market, I don't know what to choose! Tell me about your favourites! SO and I are debating between the 'look' and I'm willing to give up style for function [more inside]

I've seen lots of TV shows where someone will get a guy up to speed with grooming, help him come up with a "style", take him to the right cosmetics people, hair stylist, etc. I want this overall service too. Do these sorts of people exist in real life, what are they called, and can I find one here in the UK? [more inside]

Clothing experts! I have a trivial problem. The hem of my button-up shirts -- the hem on the non-button side -- always folds over on itself. How do I make it flat again? It's happening to all my flannel button-ups, seriously jeopardising my aspirations to lumbersexuality. Pic below. [more inside]
