The fan in one of our bathrooms has been working intermittently since I cleaned it (more inside)--most recently, it worked for a few weeks, but is having trouble again. It will start if I "jump start" it by starting it spinning, and then seems to run fine. Not sure what to do, but due to the fan's slightly odd size, I don't want to replace it (i.e., cut up my ceiling) if possible. [more inside]
White noise is fine, and soothing, perhaps even desirable, but clunking, groaning and rattling is not. Bedroom is ~12x 10 feet, bed in the middle, fan would probably be on the closest side. Budget up to a few hundred. Thanks!
Ikea sells "exhaust hoods" like this Luftig for $379, and it sells "exhaust fans" like this Luftig for $99. How are they different that's worth $280? It can't be just the extra stainless steel and faux industrial style since this Eventuell which mounts under a cabinet sells for $499. [more inside]
We have this furnace. In the summer it would be nice if we could run only the fan (We don't have central air), but according to the manual, Fan Only Mode requires the R and G thermostat contacts be wired. As you can see, only the RC/RH and W contacts are wired. Would simply swapping the orange wire from RC/RH to RH/G create the circuit needed for sweet, sweet fan action, or will it be necessary to run a new wire from G to the control board in the furnace, therefore requiring professional help? I live in an open, large, loft-like apartment that gets face-meltingly hot in the New England summer. Easily near 100F in the afternoon. AC is impractical for such a big space. I've tried box fans, but I haven't found one that moves enough air to make a difference and even those were as loud as airplanes. An even faster fan sounds like a bad idea, but a much bigger and slower fan might just do the trick. Something like these, but preferably something that doesn't need to be permanently installed? Where does one find an enormous fan?
Who has had a powerful fan for longer than three years without it breaking or doing something irritating? What's the make and model? [more inside]
We installed a new ceiling fan but the pull chain is hard to pull as it rubs against the grommet, and I'm concerned it may break if someone pulls too hard. How can I make the chain pull a little easier and smoother? Some type of lubricant that doesn't require frequent reapplication?
So I've got a nice oven and a nice overhead hood. Unfortunately, behind the facade of wooden veneer is NOTHING. No vent, no fan, nothing. Can I install a fan up there? [more inside]
I have a 650W power supply in my computer that I installed myself back when I asked this question (scroll through the answers on that for most system specs). This morning, the fan on the power supply started making noise. Do I need to replace the supply entirely, or is this something I can fix on my own? [more inside]

Does purchasing an external fan for a laptop work or are they just marketing? Mine can run a little warm when I am pushing it with games so I am considering a cooling pad.
I have a box fan running in my window. It pushes out a lot of air when I hold my hand in the front but when I hold my hand on the back of the fan it barely feels like any air is being pulled in. Where is the extra air coming from? [more inside]

How do I wire my new bathroom exhaust fan? The old fan has three functions (fan, light, nightlight) and therefore connects to a triple switch on the wall. It also means that there are two runs of wire to it. The new fan has only two functions (fan, light) and therefore only needs one run of wire. How do I wire this thing up; what do I do with the extra run of wire? [more inside]

The wife was working on her Macbook Duo about a week ago, when the screen when dark for about 10 seconds and perhaps a slight pop was heard (she isn't sure). After the screen came back on the fan seemed to stop working. Normally, she could cause the fan to run pretty loudly as she Netflixed, played video or Flash games. After that noise, the fan no longer ran that loud or fast. [more inside]
