Looking for Smart On-Off-On switch that will work with Google Home

I'm looking for a smart On-Off-On switch and/or a timer switch that will work with Google Home. I have a whole house fan that is controlled by two physical switches. One to set the speed of the fan to High, Off , or Low, and a second timer switch for 4 hours, 2 hours, 1 hour or locked on. I'd like to be able to turn the fan on with Google Home and/or via If This Then That. [more inside]

Overheating in bed, steps to take - sleep filter

I haven't been sleeping well. Including all winter. Is a whole house fan worth it?

With the summer about to come on strong, we're considering installing a whole house fan in our newly bought house (Los Angeles area). Before we take the plunge, I'd love to hear from anybody who has one, preferably in a climate like ours -- the good, the bad, and the ugly. Worth it or not? [more inside]

Why does my bathroom stink?

A few years ago, I had an attic fan installed to reduce heat build-up on the second floor of my home. Ever since, I have noticed foul sewage odors in my first-floor half bath. Help with bathroom fan that is driving me bonkers

The fan in one of our bathrooms has been working intermittently since I cleaned it (more inside)--most recently, it worked for a few weeks, but is having trouble again. It will start if I "jump start" it by starting it spinning, and then seems to run fine. Not sure what to do, but due to the fan's slightly odd size, I don't want to replace it (i.e., cut up my ceiling) if possible. [more inside]

What is a good, quiet bedroom fan?

White noise is fine, and soothing, perhaps even desirable, but clunking, groaning and rattling is not. Bedroom is ~12x 10 feet, bed in the middle, fan would probably be on the closest side. Budget up to a few hundred. Thanks!

What's the difference between an exhaust hood and an exhaust fan?

Ikea sells "exhaust hoods" like this Luftig for $379, and it sells "exhaust fans" like this Luftig for $99. How are they different that's worth $280? It can't be just the extra stainless steel and faux industrial style since this Eventuell which mounts under a cabinet sells for $499. [more inside]

Can I Get My Furnace Fan to Function Independently of Heating/Cooling?

We have this furnace. In the summer it would be nice if we could run only the fan (We don't have central air), but according to the manual, Fan Only Mode requires the R and G thermostat contacts be wired. As you can see, only the RC/RH and W contacts are wired. Would simply swapping the orange wire from RC/RH to RH/G create the circuit needed for sweet, sweet fan action, or will it be necessary to run a new wire from G to the control board in the furnace, therefore requiring professional help? Where do I find a giant fan?

I live in an open, large, loft-like apartment that gets face-meltingly hot in the New England summer. Easily near 100F in the afternoon. AC is impractical for such a big space. I've tried box fans, but I haven't found one that moves enough air to make a difference and even those were as loud as airplanes. An even faster fan sounds like a bad idea, but a much bigger and slower fan might just do the trick. Something like these, but preferably something that doesn't need to be permanently installed? Where does one find an enormous fan?
