Good videos with the emotional impact of something failing?

Good videos with the emotional impact of something failing? Like, something engineered failing or some software or some contraption failing and people being disappointed by it. Fiction or nonfiction, both are good. Software specifically would be nice, but other failures are good, just with the emotional impact, too.

Fiction about people failing and then succeeding?

I'm going through a rough time in my life, and I'd love to consume some FICTION (especially sci fi / fantasy) where the characters have some kind of big important failure, and then recover. (Doesn't necessarily have to end with them succeeding at the same thing they originally failed. Them finding a different goal would be just as interesting.) Books, movies, TV, anime, webcomics, etc. all welcome. Please don't suggest nonfiction.

The cons: It feels like a countdown to me being discovered as a fraud and getting fired. How do I position myself for the best outcome? (Very long, if you need a good book) [more inside]

Movies where the protagonist needs to learn to embrace imperfection

I'm looking for examples of films (not TV) where the primary character arc is that of a protagonist who is attempting to be perfectly good/strong/emotionally invincible, but needs to learn to forgive him/herself for having human failings/vulnerabilities. Put another way, movies about forgiving oneself for failing to live up to an impossible ideal of being "good" "strong" or "perfect." Any genre will do.

How do I fix my life?

I am about to graduate college with a business degree, a mediocre gpa, and very little experience. I have not made a single friend in college or been in a relationship. I lived with my parents for the whole entire time in college and they expect me to be married before leaving the house. I tend to succumb to extreme laziness and procrastination. I can spend 8 hours daily on the internet instead of doing homework. This procrastination has seeped into my job search. Am I ever going to be prepared for life? [more inside]

Advice on how to deal with failure? I lost my job due to depression.

I took a job in Mexico as an English teacher. Between dealing with culture shock and homesickness, moving away from my boyfriend, a major depressive episode, anxiety and panic, physical health issues, and experiencing an extreme trauma (was raped right before Christimas break)... well, suffice to say, it wasn't the best semester. I was just told that I will not be asked back next year. I was not planning on returning, but my self-esteem has taken a huge hit. How do I move forward after such an awful failure? [more inside]

Home Power Generator Question

Every summer and winter, random weather related power failures (as well as those caused by people knocking down power poles - it's rural with lots of winding roads) leave the house without power for hours to days. So I'm thinking about getting a Generac 8kw gas-powered portable with a manual transfer switch. A Generac 10kw propane powered installed with an automatic transfer switch is at least 6 six times more expensive and I don't see much of an extra benefit. [more inside]

Give me some books about failing.

I'm hitting a rough patch in my life and really failing at something for the first time(bout to drop out of graduate school). I'm looking for recommendations of novels or books that feature characters failing(in whatever way you define that). Not necessarily looking for feel-good/happy endings(although those are alright!). I'm more just curious about how others deal with failing + failing. Kind of a listening to sad music after a break-up thing.

Letting go- failure or quitting? what's the difference?

I am having a hard time letting go of something. I have been told that I have an amazing ability to persevere and I can, unfortunately, keep on trying to make things work- for ever! Needless to say, letting a current bad situation go is proving to be near impossible because I see doing that as outright failure, not to mention a complete waste of 1+ year. My friends say its not failure, and I don't think I understand the difference. So I am hoping that maybe you can explain with personal anecdotes? [more inside]

Have my computer and printer broken up forever?

We have a PC (purchased within the last year) and an HP OfficeJet J6480 printer (a few years old). Last week we switched our wireless connection from an AT&T DSL to AT&T UVerse. We networked both the computer and the printer. (I networked the printer BOTH from the computer and on its own through the glass panel--there is no way the thing is NOT networked at this point.) I reinstalled the printer software with the latest download from the HP tech support site. We tried connecting the printer to the computer directly with a cable. We have turned the computer, printer, and router on and off until we're blue in the face. The printer has two full cartridges of ink. It says it's the default printer and that it's online. It even SAYS it's printing something when I send a document to it--and then two minutes later it says sorry, can't print. WHY are the computer and printer not communicating? Is their relationship doomed forever? [more inside]
