A friend says that when she was in Japan, she got her first facial and it was amazing. But then, when she came back to the States, she got another, and it was not so amazing. What kind of Japanese facial did she get, and is it possible to get one in the States? [more inside]

I have good skin, but for the past 15 years I have had a single dime-sized discoloration on my cheek-- a faded red color but not itchy, scaly or raised. I think it is leftover from when I had an irritated dry patch there that I picked at when I was a teen. Anyway I'd like to do something about it, and my husband gave me a gift card to a medi-spa that offers a variety of different kinds of peels, microdermabrasion, etc. I'd like to know what type of treatment is best for helping get rid of this type of spot. Not interested in a long recovery time (a day or two is ok) or having to go back for multiple visits unless absolutely necessary. I'm overwhelmed by the options but would like to use this gift certificate towards a treatment that will minimize this discoloration, without having to consult a dermatologist first. (YANMD) thanks!

Looking to clean up my look in the Twin Cities. Will you fellow MSPers give recommendations for your favorite beauty spots? South Minneapolis is closest, but I'll take anywhere. [more inside]

I have been using depilatory cream on my upper lip. A few weeks ago, I must have left it on too long because it left a mark, I guess it's a burn. It looks like a shadow and it's dark! It's horrible- now I have what looks like a moustache right where a moustache would be! Will this ever go away?
Is there anything I can do to make it go away? Is there anything a doctor could do? Would a chemical peel help?
If there's nothing that can be done, what's the best way to cover it? I've been using foundation, but it still shows through somehow.

I'm on the hunt for a new facial cleanser. I've found a fancy-dancy expensive one that I like, but before I commit to it, are there any drugstore brands worth trying out? [more inside]

This is so embarrassing- I used hair removal cream to get rid of my moustache (I'm a female) and I left it on too long. Now I've got a screaming red moustache-shaped rash over my upper lip. It's ugly and it burns like crazy. How can I make this go away?

ScarFilter: Asking for my sister. My sister fell today while running to the car and smashed her face into the pavement. Nothing broken, but she now has a wide chunk of flesh missing from the area on her nose right between her eyes. [more inside]

My overgrown eyebrows are starting to look ugly and unsightly. On occasion, i've taken to myself to pluck some out. Recently, (many months) i've left the area unattended and now i almost have a unibrow and both brows are really bushy/thick. Where can i go in Chicago to get them worked on? [more inside]

Best inexpensive all-day spa treatment in or near either NY or DC? Needs to have facials, massage, body scrubs, etc. and a "couples" type of treatment where two can be treated side-by-side and not cost a small fortune. Thanks.

Whenever I think of a person out of the past (I'm 67, and have an excellent recall of schoolmates and even casual acquaintances from the distant past) a mental thumbnail photograph of that person always pops into my thoughts. Accurate in every way. I find almost no names in memory without full face photographs, probably thousands of them. My question, is this a rare ability or is it common?

Which are the better facial cleansers for men who have oily skin ? Further to that, which natural ingredients help contain oiliness and maintain a healthy face.
I know some may have your home brewed elixirs -- care to share ?

I have noticed that over the past few years I have been carrying a lot of facial tension. It causes me to look like I'm either scowling or frowning. Please help me relax my face. I can't afford the botox route so natural, mental, or other free(ish) remedies only please. Thanks!

A close family female member in her mid 50s has let herself go - I know this isn't 1950s but she has long facial hairs on her chin and her eyebrows are out of control. She does care about her appearance cause she still dresses reasonably well.. do I or do I not tell her about the hair problem? and if so how on earth do I say it without making her feel awful? I feel like a sh*t for asking this but I can't bear to see a smart, lovely woman acting like she is 80 when she isn't.

Do facials work? I want to look like Isabella Rossellini. I want to be rid of minor blemishes that crop up often enough that I seem to always have some little thing to cover. But I'm wary of using unnecessary 'services'. Can a facial do something for me that I can't do for myself at home? How often would I need to go? Will it cost a million dollars? (Any NYC/southern CT recommendations?)
