What's so wrong with posting and discussing illicit or illegal matters on social media? It seems like a bad idea in a vague sense, sure, and I'm aware of the NSA. But if one is not currently under investigation for anything, what's the worst that could realistically happen to a person and/or their interlocutors? [more inside]
I value my privacy, and knowing that people I don't really know can easily discover my current physical location makes me feel queasy inside. How can I use the internet/social without basically shouting to the rest of the internet "this is where my body is right NOW!"? Details inside. [more inside]

I am starting a music/lifestyle blog. I want to be able to post songs from the artists on the blog (with their permission of course) on the blog's Facebook page to get the word of mouth going. I don't have enough web expertise to code from scratch, but if I had a player I could customize, I can modify the look and feel to my the blog. Any ideas on a Flash based mp3 player I could use? It could work on other platforms but it definitely has to work on Facebook too. PS. thinking of something along the lines of what soundcloud uses www.facebook.com/soundcloud

So, I'm using Google Chrome and my Facebook has suddenly decided not to work. I've tried clearing my browser history with emptying the cache and cookies (that terminology is a bit beyond me). But it still won't work. It looks like the words below, but in a blue font on a white screen. I've tried it on Internet Explorer and it works fine (Changing internet browsers is not an answer I'm willing to consider here). Can someone help me fix it please. [more inside]
..to offer a suggestion about a way they could improve an aspect of their usage (i.e. a certain feature outcome), what would be the best way to do it? (so as to ensure I receive a response I mean) i.e. would it be by email or some other way (i.e. phone number)? Thanks.
So, here's the deal. I have this friend who has been pretty active on Facebook. She talks about being a mother and a recovering alcoholic. She is really funny, and her page has become pretty popular -- people she doesn't even know will tell their friends about the page and tell them to "like" it just for the humor. I'm a communications professional, so she came to me asking, basically -- how does she take the next step? How does she go from this Facebook page, which a lot of people seem to like, to a blog that people will actually go out of their way to visit? [more inside]
It was a photo of a sculpture created from collected rocks, that formed a dragon's head. The head was not upright, more as if you looked at a sleeping dragon from directly above it. The photo was seen about a two years on Facebook, in one of those photo blogs, though I can't remember any specific or general details about the blog. Any ideas on this photo of sculpture made from collected rocks that formed a dragon's head?
My HTC One Android phone has somehow become infected with a Facebook app again. I want to delete it permanently, completely and forever. It wont let me, I've checked the forums and googled around. When I drag the icon into 'remove' or 'un-intsall ' it just wont. It doesnt show up in my list of Apps in the App manager menu... its like voodoo...Gah! Is there a way or is Facebook like forever, like Orwell's canonical Boot?

After years of saving and planning, I've been able to realize my dream of traveling the world for a year. I'm 6 months into my trip and I've been posting photos or updates about where I am in the world on facebook about 2 or 3 times a week. While many people have expressed appreciation for the updates or interest in what I'm doing, I've noticed about 7-10 friends who used to interact with me all the time on FB and real life have totally stopped liking/commenting/sending messages although they're still very active on the site. I kind of suspect some of them have blocked me from their timelines. I know not everyone will have an opportunity like this and I try to be sensitive to that. I'm not preachy about "the importance of travel", or posting pics of 5 star hotel rooms and fancy restaurants (I'm doing this as cheaply as possible, mostly hostels in developing countries and couchsurfing.) At the same time I LOVE seeing others' travel pics and, well, want to share some of the exciting, amazing things I'm experiencing with people in my life. But some people seem put off by this, so I'm wondering - am I being a jerk? What's the etiquette here?

So I log onto facebook for the first time in weeks today and see my brother has posted this image and my mother has "liked" it. Nothing that was done to us as kids would qualify as spanking (punched in the side of the head very often, welts on skin, bruises, dad threatening my sister with a kitchen knife, holding us off the ground by our necks, locking us in the bathroom and hitting us for half an hour for eating the wrong yoghurt from the fridge, knocked over if we ever spoke back to them etc). My brother was actually very rarely hit and it stopped altogether when mum threatened to divorce dad after he hit my brother badly one time. (No such luck for us girls though). I'm SO ANGRY right now and want to react but don't know how it would improve anything. I feel like I'm being goaded but am trapped in how I handle this, with it being a public forum all my friends can see. Please Mefi help me stay calm and do this right (even if that means doing nothing). [more inside]
I recently replaced a couple of old LinkSys WRT54G routers running DD-WRT in my home with a couple of couple of D-Link DIR-615 routers that I got as refurbs from woot.com. I bought these because the old machines only did 802.11 B/G whereas nearly everyone in the house now has a device that has 802.11 N capability. All seems well to me, but my wife and younger daughter consistently complain that they now frequently are unable to display some images from Facebook, and that this began to occur precisely at the time that I put these new routers in. All of the communications and marketing jobs I've been applying for lately have required experience posting to social media. In my personal life, I've avoided having anything to do with Facebook, Twitter and so forth, and I'm wondering how I can quickly get up to speed on these things. All I need is to be able to convince a potential employer that I can effectively promote them on social media, without ever having done this as part of my job responsibilities. How to accomplish this? [more inside]
I don't like that Facebook knows my face, so I'm tagging myself (and asking that friends tag me) in a lot of random photos. Does this work? Any tips to do this more efficiently? Is the algorithm already smart enough to detect that something fishy is going on?
I have a Galaxy S3 that I've been using to check facebook groups by clicking on the link in my email notification, then opening it in Chrome. I like to "follow" posts to get email notification if anyone else comments. I just got a Nexus 7, and when I access my groups in Chrome, there's no follow button, only "like," "comment," and "share." The follow button does show up in Firefox, but Firefox doesn't let me pinch zoom. Trying to click on the link in my email and then choosing the facebook app to open it with doesn't work at all. So if anyone has ideas about how to either make the "follow" button show up in Chrome or how to zoom in Firefox or if I should use a different browser/app, please let me know. Thanks!

Over the last week or so, I've been getting private messages on Facebook several times a day. My 8 year old son has never met his biological father and would like to do so. I don't want his heart to break if his bio-father doesn't want contact. I feel ridiculous for even asking but...I have a very happy and satisfying relationship with my domestic partner of several years. Seriously...everything's fine except for this one little thing...it's about how we both approach Facebook (we're both in our late 30's). He and I don't communicate, like or comment on each other's walls and we never have. But he does comment in a somewhat flirty manner with his exes (and I mean these are women from MANY years ago), and I've asked him, "What's up with that?" and his response has been, "It's nothing. Just being chatty." [more inside]

I have been running a Facebook group since 2012 and I got a grant to do research with the findings from it. I need to download the group's postings and responses into a table and thinking the most reliable way to do so is with SQL. However, I have only just started with SQL and although I have found some ideas on Github for doing it, have no idea how to get started with pulling the information. I am seeking advice and possible alternatives. Can you help?

So, I've been recently tasked with managing my company's Facebook page. I haven't been a big user of any social media sites before, but I'm managing ok.: new content is getting added, banners are updated, likes go up, a couple new users... that kind of thing. So here's what happened: one post got a huge Reach number compared to all my other posts and I don't know why. I'd really like to know why, so that, if at all possible, I can repeat it. [more inside]
