Using Firefox... I woke up this morning to find that the top blue bar on Facebook is missing. I turned off my ad blocker and also started in safemode. I tried to login with Chrome, but forgot password. I also notice my timeline is showing only 2 entries at a time. Anybody else having similar problems? Is this only happening in FF?
Within the mystery of the Facebook algorithms, is it possible for me have two friends that I can interact with, Liking, Commenting, wall posting etc, but not have them aware of each other, receiving no notification of the other's existence, no suggested friends etc?
The last time I used facebook was five years ago. I 'deleted' that account back then. Now, I would like to set up a fresh facebook account, completely unrelated to that old one. What are the best privacy practices and settings in this day and age of facebook? [more inside]
I've had a moderately popular niche blog since 2006, and hoder's article got me a bit nostalgic for the olden times. I blog in a field with few serious bloggers - there are others who post periodic podcasts and other media, but few consistent long-form writers. My blog discusses the controversial issues in my field while advertising my services as a consultant (I don't display any paid ads). Is there hope for thoughtful content these days? And how do I get heard? [more inside]
I'm currently writing a book on a dedicated Facebook page, but the chapters appear chronologically in the page's Timelime without the possibility of navigaging from one chapter to the next. So basically, to read the entire book, you need to drill down to the bottom on the Timeline and work your way up. Since there is and increasing followers base, I want to make it easier to browse. Is there a feature on Facebook that can help me do that?
So, I posted a smart-alecky (but honestly, mild) joke response to a weirdo fringe comment on a news organization's Facebook post. The fringe weirdo who posted it called my place of employment, said I was bullying him, and that I should be fired. [more inside]
I used to be on LJ and loved it, making online and RL friends until I began editing myself to silence because my ex was not keen on what I wrote etc. Now I'd like to talk to people again but how's that done in 2015? Twitter, Tumblr, Myspace? I want to be able to write short random posts, but what I miss most is the interaction and sense of community, reading a group of friends and having conversations in comments and messages. Facebook feels like shouting across a mall.
I am constantly having to sign in again on Gmail, Facebook, and Twitter on my laptop (2014 Macbook running Yosemite and generally using Safari browser, but same issue occurs when I use Chrome too) even though I select the option for the browser to remember to stay signed in and to remember my laptop & browser. I was recently reported for a supposed fake name, and the case is now solved. However, I want to know if one can whitelist one's profile/account from ever being locked-out and in need of an ID, a second, third, etc., time? [more inside]
For some reason my U-verse modem will not let me connect to facebook. When I use a VPN I am able to connect but it just times without it. Every other site I have tried has not been a problem. I have had others try to sign on to their accounts both hard wired and wirelessly and the same results ATT tech support has hit a wall in being able to help me with this and that includes having a tech out to swap the modem. Seems to be a head scratcher for everyone. Is there an answer in the Hive?
I have a site that I have started a few months ago. It is a site where I am selling random stuff right now and seeing what works. I have had some conversion from Reddit posts that got a few thousand hits so that seems to be helping but it is not always reliable since you never know what is going to go viral. Also, I'd like to open up more channels for selling. The problem is that acquiring visitors can be expensive. Does anyone know of any reasonably priced ways to generate good targeted traffic in 2015? I am not looking for SEO as an answer. I am interested in promoting the products on this site and getting conversions. I am still working on improving the site but I already know that it can convert at a reasonably good rate so my problem now is just acquiring visitors at a reasonable price.
When I try to embed a Facebook post or a tweet (with a picture) the embed works, but! It sits under the previous post - as if tumblr doesn't know there's an image there. Here is a (not especially clear) picture of what it looks like. Is there a way to fix this? [more inside]
One of the reasons I like Facebook (don't kill me) is that it connects me with a lot of my friends near and far. For the past week, I've been posting questions that start off with "Because I'm curious…." which has resulted in a lot of great banter, but it also helps me to get to know people too. Help me come up with more questions. [more inside]
I had an unexpectedly emotionally intimate experience with someone impossible about a month ago, and I can't seem to move past it. Help me process the aftermath? [more inside]
Someone I don't know posted something to a private Facebook group I'm in about their two year old with a medical problem (Phenylketonuria) going untreated. Permanent brain damage could result... probably already has, sadly, and it will get worse the longer she goes without treatment. I'm haunted by the thought of this poor little girl. Is there anything I can or should do at this point? [more inside]
Is there a way to block someone who has already blocked you? [more inside]
How do I properly search for Facebook pages in such a way that I find ALL the results that I am looking for? [more inside]
On Facebook, my friends' list is set to completely private ("only me"). This should mean that when I friend someone with a private / friends-only friends list, the new friendship should NOT show up in my friends' tickers unless they already know that person. However, what if I add someone with a public friends' list - will it show up in my other friends' tickers despite my privacy settings? [more inside]
I'm getting tired of Facebook and want to close my account. It's becoming too problematic, socially skewed, lacking in cuss words and attention-draining with ad's. I do want to save all my previous posts and photos. How would I do so? I also have access to my business accounts through my personal site. Is there a way I can make these stand on their own?
Quit Facebook. No regrets. Except now I'm locked out of a number of websites I joined by clicking that "sign up with Facebook" button. How do I get in to these sites without reactivating my FB account? [more inside]
Please help me find music magazines/groups with a social media presence. In particular, I'd like to find genre-specific ones whose content is carefully curated. [more inside]
I recently had a few hundred family photos scanned and I'd like to put them up somewhere everyone who's interested can see them. This includes people across several different families and with vastly different technology access/knowledge (though everyone can browse the Internet). I'd strongly prefer not to use Facebook. What's the best solution? [more inside]
They shouldn't affect me this strongly, should they? [more inside]
I posted a link on my facebook page to the Guardian piece about David Pocock calling out homophobic slurs in a recent Super15 rugby match. But during posting, facebook complained that the link looked malicious, and asked me to confirm it was safe. [more inside]
Facebook started automatically adding my current location to my posts. The location is guessed from my IP, I think, because I have nothing listed as my "current city" or "home town" or "other places lived" in my profile. I'm posting from my PC. It's freaking me out and I want to make it stop, but how? [more inside]
Back when I used to have a blog, my Twitter account would automatically tweet links to my new posts. Meanwhile, my tweets were automatically posted as Facebook statuses. But that was 5+ years ago and I have no idea what the done thing is these days. [more inside]
Looking to set-up a simple five question poll for my business. I would like the insight but can see by past visits most facebook "friends" will not click a link through to a separate page. I am not personally on facebook so I can't look for a poll I have received in the past to use. It seems so simple yet my five hours of heavy lifting haven't resulted in what am looking for... Thank you in advance! [more inside]
My partner's daughter's ex has posted false accusations on Facebook about him and they are being discussed on Twitter. YANOL but does anyone have any advice? The Police are involved but not doing much, Facebook have ruled it doesn't break their guidelines, and we've been told it would be too expensive to sue for defamation (this is in the UK). My partner is massively distressed and we don't know what to do and I don't know how to support him. [more inside]
I've had a Facebook account for years and never used it. Now I'm getting messages via email that so-and-so has tagged me in a photo. So, uhm, what am I supposed to do? [more inside]

Attention Timehop users: I want to share a timehop post on facebook. I clicked "share this", made sure the "facebook" icon was checked, and then hit post. But on my facebook wall all that is posted is my caption + the timehop logo, no picture. [more inside]
My first reaction when seeing a headline to the effect that people's Facebook posts stating that Facebook had no right to use XYZ data did not retroactively invalidate users' consent to the terms of service was, "no shit." But then I thought, well why the hell not? [more inside]
Every time I visit Facebook, my Firefox history tab inexplicably lists "Boingo | the worldwide leader in wi-fi software and services." When I click on it, it takes me to my FB page. I'm totally confused why it's there or how to get rid of it. Any advice?
I received this note in Arabic at the bottom of my Facebook notifications. I didn't think anything of it because a lot of my Facebook friends post Arabic quotes that have a similar look, and I just thought it was a glitch between my newsfeed and notification page. About 8 hours later, another friend sent me a screen capture (the linked photo) of the same thing, asking me if I could translate it for her. I did, but does anybody know where it's from, or how the message got on Facebook? I haven't found any source or similar quotes in google searches. [more inside]
I've unfollowed a lot of my friends on Facebook, for various reasons. Is there any easy way to see a list of the people I've unfollowed? [more inside]
I have a question about facebook search and finding posts in a facebook group on certain dates. [more inside]
For the past few weeks, I can only use Facebook on a particular Firefox profile when using my laptop. Facebook does not load (stuck on loading screen) on my other Firefox profiles even if I create a new profile, as well as in Chrome and IE. Sometimes, when I access Facebook, it takes a long time trying to load but displays only a severely broken snippet. All other Web sites load properly. Does any of you have suggestions on how I can fix this problem? [more inside]
Let's say I've got a somewhat eclectic group of friends, the result of which being that I get some rather unorthodox, adults-only suggestions for Facebook groups to join. These things don't offend *me* but I'd be embarrassed if my mother or coworkers were looking at something I wanted to show them and these happened to be hanging out on the side panel. Can I turn this off within Facebook, are there any browser add-ons (Firefox and/or Chrome) I can use?
I'm currently using Facebook group chats in some of my community organizational work. The "seen by" function is really helpful for more timely items, but the problem is that it only shows first names - but we often have multiple people in the group with the same first name. Is there a way to tell which John or Jane has seen the message? Googlefu is failing me.
Managers at the charity I work for would like me to set up a Q&A session for a small group of people on Facebook. How do I do it? [more inside]
This is a question about the integrity of DNS records in terms of historical accuracy. A friend of mine is an investigative journalist who's doing a critical reexamination of the Facebook origin story has come across something that doesn't quite make sense and he doesn't have the technical expertise to parse its meaning or lack thereof. I am on facebook, pinterest and twitter, and I was wondering if random people can just look up my stuff that I have written or even my pictures. I'm not talking about people who are logged in and are following me or my friends. I just mean random strangers. Thanks.
I'm helping publicize an event via Facebook and print fliers. I would love to be able to include a URL for the Facebook event on the fliers, but the one that Facebook provides is a long string of nonsense. [more inside]
Facebook has a way to archive/download your data. However, last time I did that, I noticed that it didn't include any comments that friends had made on my posts or any of the pictures I was tagged in (that had been posted by other people), and probably a few other things in a similar vein. Is there an automated way to save those things? Perhaps a third-party product or app of some sort?
I am creating an email. In this email, I'd like to have a link that opens a message sharing a particular link with our link annotation. Then the recipient just needs to click "post" to share our content we need them to. I can do this on twitter but I can't figure it out on facebook. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Some guy used my (secondary) e-mail address when he signed up for Facebook, so now I am getting zillions of friend requests, status updates, personal messages, etc., via Facebook that are meant for him. My goal is to somehow bring this to his attention and get him to use his real email address. [more inside]
I'm curious to hear how everyone organizes their Facebook friends lists, and how they figure out which posts/content to disclose to which parties. How do you use your lists? What is your system? [more inside]
I have been trying to figure out how often facebook's nearby friends option updates location, but I'm not having any luck. [more inside]
My 9 year old loves Dragon City. I de-authorized the FB app to post on my behalf through Facebook settings, but it's still very easy to send invitations to all Facebook friends through the Dragon City app (which my son usually plays on my iPad). As far as I understand, there's no way to play Dragon City without linking it to a Facebook account. Is there anyway to turn off the ability to invite Facebook friends? [more inside]
