Mirrored sunglasses (no, really *really opaquely* mirrored sunglasses)

I'm trying to find online-purchasable, prescription sunglasses with mirror filming opaque enough that you can't see my eyes through the lenses (most searches for "opaque mirrored sunglasses" do not produce these). Any ideas? (Photo of exactly what I do/don't want inside.) [more inside]

Looking at people's mouths when they are speaking?

Is this weird? I notice I tend to look at people's mouths when they are speaking to me. When I catch myself doing it, I try to look them in the eyes more, but for some reason I just find my eyes are drawn to someone's mouth when they are talking to me. I'm not sure if they notice it or not or how much I actually do it. [more inside]

Eye contact :(

I have this weird eye contact problem that has plagued me since I can remember. I find all eye contact in general to be really unpleasantly intimate and intense, but several times a day when I'm talking to someone (both familiar people and strangers), I have a moment of frisson where it feels like I'm boring into their eyes with my own. The freaky part is that every single time I have this experience, it throws the person off--they stammer, look away, close their eyes for longer than just a blink, lose their train of thought, etc. As far as I know, I'm not changing anything about my facial expression--this is all happening somehow within the eye contact realm. Making eye contact while singing in front of a close audience

I sing with a small group of vocalists and instrumentalists on a monthly basis. Often it's in a bar/restaurant or other situations where the audience is very close to me (sometimes sitting right in front of me.) Sometimes I sing solos, and I can't figure out where to direct my gaze when I do because of the closeness. Should I make eye contact with the audience, even when they're right in front of me? Should I move my head back and forth and survey the entire crowd? What should I be doing as a performer? Thanks very much for any help you can give me.

Look.... at... me....

Sometimes when I am in a three-person conversation the other two people make lots of eye contact but I am excluded. I hate this so much! Am I doing something wrong? How do I make them include me? [more inside]

Don't mind me, I'm just reading your retinas here...

How did I develop such an aversion to looking people in the eye, and how I can overcome it? It was recently pointed out to me that I unconsciously avoid eye contact in all but the most intimate circumstances---one on one conversations, with friends, etc. Apparently, this makes me look "shifty-eyed" or even like I'm trying to peek down a woman's shirt, so I'd like to stop, but it's very difficult. Not only do I do it unconsciously, but making eye contact with strangers or more casual acquaintances actively feels wrong. [more inside]

What is this "treposa" really called?

"Dan, one of my patients, attended a retreat where he engaged in treposa, a meditation procedure in which two people hold hands for several minutes, lock gazes, meditate deeply upon one another, and then repeat the process with new partners." The author of this passage seems to have gotten the name of this meditation practice wrong. Does it actually exist at all? [more inside]

My friend's rant about Vancouver women are actually based on at least a sliver of fact?

Walking down an uncrowded/empty street, someone of the opposite sex walking towards you. 10+ paces away, they're usually, or may not (sunglasses, distance), be looking at you (sunglasses, distance), 10 paces away, they look away from your direction, between 1 and 2 paces away, they quickly look to see if you're looking at them... Help Me Look You In The Eyes

My mom has trouble looking people in the eye for some reason and I'm just now realizing that I picked up the same habit from her. I'm in my late 20s. I'm not a painfully shy person nor am I socially inept, I just have trouble looking people in the eye. If feel uncomfortable doing so and people have started to comment on it. What can I do to break myself of the habit and start looking people in the eye.
