We just bought a house where we suspect rat poison was used in the yard. We have two dogs who love getting into stupid mischief. We want to hire someone who will go through the yard with a fine-toothed comb before we move in and find any rat poison that might be there, and remove it. What would this person or business be called?

Our apartment complex just sprayed for bugs around the baseboards in the kitchen. I don't know what spray they used, but it's not the kind where they make you empty your cupboards. Is it safe for our cat,
Captain Tightpants who is just under a year old, to frolic around, or should he be kept locked in the bathroom for a while? And if so, how long?

Bedbugs in Los Angeles in a (really great, otherwise) rental - Landlord's had it "treated" once, and it hasnt worked. Could use some advice on next steps, before I completely lose my mind. Long-ish sob story inside...

Ladybugs are cute and even helpful--provided they stay where they belong, in the garden. Now, for the second time this year, they're coming inside where it's warm. Do we have a problem?

We caught
this bug on my bed and I have a few questions...1) So this is a bed bug right?
Google images pretty much answered this question but I'm still hoping somebody's gonna say "no dude, it's something else, totally harmless!" But FYI, we
were bitten a few times several weeks ago and just assumed it was unusually persistent mosquitoes.

Somehow my ridiculously clean apartment has roaches. Am I being stupid trying to treat this myself or should I just get an exterminator? And if the latter, can you recommend a good one in NYC?

Anyone have a recommendation for an exterminator in the Twin Cities area (St. Paul specifically)? Orkin looks like the main game in town, but I'm wary of simply going with the biggest option around just because it's simple. Reviews/defense of Orkin's service are welcome, too! This is for insects, not rodents.

My house is completely infested with brown marmorated stink bugs, and I can't take it any more. Are foggers a possible solution? And how bad are they for people, pets, and the environment?

I keep finding live flying bugs in my windows and lights and our house is very tight and doors open only rarely. I can't tell if this is normal springtime bug populations or if I have an infestation in my attic. When is it time to call the exterminator?

I think my home may have termites. Being a new homeowner, I have never dealt with an exterminator before. Any suggestions on who to call first? I've heard some horror stories about exterminators.

Carpenter ants. My wife and I are finally winning the war against sugar ants (thanks to a wonderful product called
Terro which works better than our $300 exterminator did), but now we have a carpenter ant infestation. The nest (main nest? will there be multiple nests?) is located in some rotten 2x6 boards framing our raised beds in the garden. However, their current ant highway leads to a vent under the house. Any of you Mefites have carpenter ant experience? What worked? What didn't? Do we need a professional? If they're foraging under the house, does that mean they've probably already set up a colony there?
I hate ants. I hate them, I hate them, I hate them, I hate them, I hate them.
