Great destinations, routes and experiences in and around Toronto.

I want to go to there, but I need your advice on where "there" is. Starting point: Toronto. Range: any land within 100 km (60-ish miles) of High Park, but I can go further for something really special. Means of transport: my trusty steed. Time frame: now until November-ish. I'm looking for great routes or awesome destinations, urban, rural or suburban, like the best roti in Scarborough, a tiny potter's studio somewhere in Peel, or a gorgeous path by some body of water that isn't Lake Ontario. I want to go somewhere to do something neat, like picking apples or riding horses. And this is not Torontofilter or bikefilter. I'm looking for creative ideas from anyone, anywhere. If you're from the GTA or any place within reach, what places, routes and experiences would you recommend? For example:

- A great view or nearly-secret thing that few other people know about. I never got around to the secret swing, and I regret it.
- The best [meal / farmer's market] in [area of your choice].
- Galleries are an obvious choice for me, but beyond that, is there, say, a raku studio nearby that gives demos or classes?
- Some place I should go to with my camera or sketchpad, or else.
- Where is a movie or tv show being filmed right now? I don't care about star-stalking, but am curious about the ebb and flow of work on site.

If you're not from around here, what kind of place or experience do you have in your neck of the woods that I should try to find locally?

Restrictions: very few.

- These have to be day trips, thus my soft limit of 100 km (200 km round trip). However, if need be, I can justify taking a train partway to get to someplace great and back in one day.
- I favour free or cheap over expensive, but can justify spending some money on an awesome experience.
- I can carry a fair amount on my bike, but there are limits, so I don't think I'll be furniture shopping any time soon.

Otherwise, suggest away!

S/he's bi. Still interested?

You: Either gender, heterosexual or homosexual. Your potential date: identifies as your preferred gender, but bisexual. Would you be willing to pursue a romantic relationship, not just a sexual one, with that person? Why or why not? I am writing a piece of creative nonfiction addressing various aspects of bisexuality, including the experiences and opinions of people who do not identify as bi (or pansexual, if you prefer vocabulary that avoids the two gender system).

Columnists like Dan Savage actively discourage people from becoming romantically involved with bisexual people, but while he gives general advice, he is also addressing specific people in specific situations, and I am interested in how a greater population feels about the topic. I realize that there is an exception to every rule, even personal ideals, but I’m interested in the general. It is the 'because' statements that interest me the most, as I'm trying to see if there is a trend or commonality in people's reasoning.

Similarly, have you had an experience dating a bisexual person? Would you do it again? Why or why not?

If you have an opinion or experience but don’t want it shared on a public forum, please email me: bvk3630 (at) gmail.com

NOTE: This is not the place for a discussion of anyone else’s opinions or experiences to take place. Please do not criticize anyone for what they say; I am just as interested in the ‘no, I wouldn’t because’ than I am in the ‘yes, I would because’ and in order for that to happen, it needs to be an open, nonjudgmental forum.

Michigan Travel Excitement

We’re heading up to the northern shore area of MI from Chicago mid-July and want to know about any exciting (safe) adventures like jet boat rides, dune buggy rides, zip lines, etc. that are memorable and “not to miss” while in the area. In the past, we have found some of these experiences are not mentioned AAA books or online travel sites. Thanks!

I don't want to be Carrie Bradshaw, how do I avoid it?!

I jokingly refer to my life and every experience I've had so far as "research" and say I'm going to write a book about it. But I'm not trying to be the next Carrie Bradshaw. Like a lot of women in their mid-twenties, I've run the gamut in the dating pool - I feel like I've dated every type of guy, been in every kind of goofy situation you can be in, yet still struggled with the idea of giving up my independence and wanting to cling to it. I like to tell stories to people as anecdotal advice or whatever. A couple of my friends have encouraged me to write a "real" book about it and I would love to do it. I feel like maybe what I've learned can help other women.
However, I don't want to be the next Carrie Bradshaw. I'm not all about the "single and fabulous" and what not - and I feel like every idea I have eventually winds up back there. I'm trying really hard to avoid it when I try to brainstorm.
I've thought about a David Sedaris style too, a collection of essays that don't really tie together or provide anything except (great) entertainment.
Does anyone have any ideas of how to avoid "copying" Sex and the City? Or do any single ladies have any ideas of what they would like to gain from a potential book like this?

Help me get out, meet people, and experience life!

Help me get out, meet people, and experience life! I don't know how to relax enough to have fun when meeting new people or trying something new. After quite a bit of soul-searching, I've realized that I have trouble having fun and trying new things. It's not that I can't handle stress--as an entrepreneur, I experience high-stress situations on a daily basis--but that I can't seem to relax enough to meet new people or try something different. Although I'm getting better at it--I've tried baking a pie, going to the batting cages, and learning to play golf--I want to do more. What are some out of the ordinary things I can do to get myself out there? Answers should prefferably require me to meet new people, though not in a romantic sort of way, since my girlfriend and I are quite happy together.

alternative to stamps.com

Is there any online postage-printing site that doesn't require a monthly fee? I mail books periodically and I'm at least 15 miles from the post office. Thanks to the Unabomber I can't just slap stamps on a package and leave it for my carrier or it gets returned. Instead I have to go deal with our understaffed local postoffice. I've seen automatic postal kiosks, but not in our neighborhood. Stamps.com will work, as will any service that attaches an identifying number to the postage, the assumption being that people who mail deadly stuff would never think to hide their identity.

Have you, personally, seen a ghost?

I know many otherwise-skeptical people who believe in ghosts. Further discussion often leads to anecdotes, or a single bizarre happening from a long time ago. Perhaps my skeptical mind closes me off to the experience. So I wonder, has anyone here personally, preferably recently, experienced the paranormal? I remember being young and reading all about ghosts and etc. One of my good friends was all about the subject too. Some night afterwards I awoke, and headed to the bathroom... when out of the corner of my eye I thought I saw something. I really didn't, but I wanted to believe it was a ghost, and so I did. I had mentioned it to many people.. and after years I never thought about it. Years later, after some introspection, I decided to stop feeding the lie.

Near-Death Experiences

We've all seen reports of Christians in fiery plane crashes or otherwise at death's doorstep experiencing visions of Christ showing the way out of the wreckage/beckoning them into heaven/etc., etc.
Do members of other religions report the same kind of experiences?

Straterra and ADHD. My 13 year old son has just been diagnosed with ADHD and the dr. is recommending Straterra. Does anyone have any experience with young adolescents and Straterra, especially side effects, good, bad experiences? Any helpful hints on young adolescents and ADHD in general? Thanks.

Holes from wisdom tooth extraction

WisdomTeethFilter. My wife had two wisdom teeth removed - not the first she had taken out, but some differences this time. She's wondering if things are normal. [more is inside] As a person with all 32 teeth in the right spot, I can't say from experience, but she's sort of worried. She now has two big holes in the lower jaw where the teeth used to be, and has to flush them out after eating. Nothing she can find online so far has said how normal these holes are or how long they take to fill in - if they ever fill in completely. Today, while rinsing one empty tooth socket, she started bleeding again. It's been three weeks since the teeth were removed. Are they supposed to be bleeding at this point? Her doc said no peanuts or popcorn for a month after the stitches came out; I really can't see how the holes she has could fill in enough to stop a popcorn kernel from lodging in there by next week. Anyone with wisdom teeth removal experience, please share...

Online pharmaceuticals: Experiences? Anybody buy drugs online? Like, stuff that you'd need a prescription for (Xanax, Tylenol w/codeine, Paxil, etc.)?
