Holland-American

Simple Amsterdam/Holland question: Not looking to work there just hoping to stay as a tourist, rent a flat and see Europe from there for a year and a half and come back to the US. Does anyone in the Netherlands offically even care?, we have retirement income to cover expenses while there. All the sites seem devoted to work permits and bringing in the kids type needs, we just need to know we are able to stay, spend and leave. Anyone of the mifi hive ever do that?

Three Months in Birmingham

On Friday I'm going to Birmingham (Sutton Coldfield) for three months (until early may) for an engineering internship. What should I know? What's the Birmingham area known for amongst Britons? What should I absolutely not miss in my down time? What social norms (at work or otherwise) might be unusual to me? What do locals do for fun? What parts of the city should I wander around in to get a sense of the place (and in which areas would doing so get me killed or served with an anti-social order)? [more inside]

A Country House (Moving to England)

After I graduated from university last year, I moved to England to work as an au pair for a year. Help me pay 12 months of premiums for 3 months of coverage

I live overseas for 10 months a year. I am finding it very difficult to get health insurance. No preexisting conditions, no smoking, not obese, but I am only barely a resident of California, and this seems to be a tripping point. All I want is a basic, high deductible plan for emergencies. I am currently covered in Virginia (from a while back, never told them I moved), but since my residency is California now, they probably won't cover me. What are my options? I just spent 4 hours on applications and was turned down every time. Everything else I see on google looks dodgy.
