Moving to France, No Job, Don't Know French, It's Happening Regardless. How do I find work in the manual labor sector? Can I go over as a "tourist" fall in love with the country and stay without coming back to the States to figure out visas and such? I will be going over there with little money (~$1500) and will need to figure out work fast. [more inside]

I'm starting a job in France in June. I'm English. I'm going to need various stuff (bank account, apartment, insurance, mobile phone, phone, internet, register with a doctor, find some decent French lessons, and heaps of stuff I'm sure to have overlooked right now). Does anyone know any good expat websites or guides to moving to France? Or a forum where I can ask a load of questions? [more inside]

An American friend of mine has accepted a two year assignment in Toulouse, France. She'd appreciate any advice that could make the experience simpler or better.

French Citizenship or Residence
I am a United States citizen who is looking to move to France. I am currently living in the Republic of Ireland but I am finding it harder and harder to maintain legal residence (even though, my mother is remarried to an Irishman and my ancestry is Irish) It seems you either have to be offered a contract for employment or be a student to stay here. I HEARD that requirements for French citizenship or permanent residence were more lenient. Does anyone have any information on this. I am NOT "highly skilled" in the slightest, unless you consider fixing PCs and Macs a skill.
