Photo EXIF and system metadata

I changed phones a few weeks ago, and the transfer utility that copied data from phone to phone screwed up the /system/ timestamp of my photos. Unfortunately, this changed the sort order, so I can't find anything. How can I fix the data? [more inside]

Mac disk utility problem - data missing

Never thought I would be posting a question along these lines, but here we go. So I had an external hard disk with two partitions. One NTFS and one HFS+. The NTFS partition was empty. I wanted to use the NTFS partition with Time Machine so I used Disk Utility to reformat it HFS+. When the format had completed, yes, the NTFS partition was now HFS+ BUT the other partition had disappeared. When I looked at it in disk utility it had a name like "disk32s". [more inside]

EXIF data

Will editing a photo in a program like Photoshop destroy the original EXIF data from that photo? If I cut and pasted part of a photo and saved it as "NEW" what would the EXIF data of that "NEW" photo show? [more inside]

Export a list of file names and "date picture taken"

For a given folder full of images, I want to export a list of file names and corresponding "date picture taken" values. NOT "date created," NOT "date modified." I'd like the file in .csv or .txt format. Can the Windows command line do this? Failing that, some freeware EXIF-reader program? Thanks! [more inside]

Using EXIF time stamp as blog post time?

I want to set up a little "one picture a day" blog, using something like Tumblr, except I want the time of the post to be taken directly from the "Date Picture Taken" EXIF data. Is there a CMS (or even better, a Tumblr hack) that will allow me to do this? [more inside]

Ho to make photoshop save photos?

How can I save JPG images in Photoshop CS so that a digital camera can read them? Cheap crappy software can do this easily, but no matter what file settings I use in Photoshop, I've never been able to get any of my digital cameras to be able to read any JPG that was written by Photoshop - I have to load and re-save them with other piece of software to get them to work. Surely there is a way to make Photoshop save JPG files that cameras can read? [more inside]

Does cross-platform, self-contained photo management exist?

I'm a single user looking for an easier way to browse my photos. It looks like I need a photo management tool like iPhoto, F-Spot, et al. The catch: if possible, I would like whatever solution I end up with to be cross-platform and self-contained (because I'm scared of entering all of my information into a proprietary database that I can't get my data out of later). How can I organise my mass of digital photos?

I've got a directory filled with the digital photos I and friends have taken over some eight years. It's a disorganised mess with no coherent, standardised naming format. I'd like to: -remove duplicates -sort, rename or place in folders images based on EXIF data or content I'm on Mac OS X but could possibly gain access to a Windows box if necessary. Any ideas?

I've decided to start editing metadata in my photographs. I want to add keywords via Photoshop CS. My question is, if I add keywords to a JPG, when I save it, will it recompress the image and thus degrade it?
