I am exhausted all the time - help?

I'm trying to figure out why I'm exhausted all the time. Of late, I have been generally getting 8-9 hours of sleep (sometimes more), and am very tired through the day, sometimes taking an accidental nap (that I don't have time for), and after dinner I am too tired to do anything and have to push myself and am not very productive. This can't be normal. Even figuring out the general genre of the exhaustion would be helpful, especially whether it results from some sort of clear-cut medical problem or whether it's psychosomatic. I'm about to get bloodwork done, and am trying to figure out what should be tested for. More inside, and I'd love any thoughts or pointers. [more inside]

How do I deal with profound emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion?

Whenever I have a particularly stressful or taxing day, I end up being profoundly exhausted for 2-3 days after. We're talking sleeping for 16 hours each day, walking around in a daze, feeling sick after eating, and just feeling unable to do anything I want or need to do. It's like I'm dealing with trauma, but surely this isn't a normal or even reasonable response to trauma, right? If you've dealt with this in the past or are dealing with it now, could you please share any solutions you've found that have worked for you? This has been going on since 2008 for me.

Constantly tired: like depression without the hopelessness. What gives?

I'm constantly tired to the point of not being able to get out of bed until early afternoon, napping frequently and generally feeling lethargic, apathetic and kind of nauseous. I finished a contract job 5 weeks ago & assumed my tiredness was a result of wrapping up the project. Then I went on a very chilled 3 week holiday and put the exhaustion on return down to jet lag. I've seen my doctor and my bloodwork is fine. My diet is decent, minimal alcohol, one coffee a day, so I'm fairly sure this is a psychological thing. I take an SSRI for anxiety but was actually talking to my doctor about tapering off as I've been really well for the past year. Physically, it feels like the bout of depression I had four years ago, but my mood isn't low (more flat) and I don't feel hopeless, just like everything's a massive effort, even helpful things like exercise and socialising. Obviously, YANMD, but has anyone else been there? What can I do to shake this?

Crisis and exhaustion

Exhaustion of art forms/artists

Not long ago I was reading a criticism of the notion that certain artistic styles become "exhausted" after which new styles have to be found that centered on the sensible claim that it is artists who come to find styles exhausted, not styles that in themselves become exhausted; it quoted at length from a scholar of Chinese art who made much the same point in regards to some period of Chinese painting (and perhaps poetry?). I can't at all remember where it was, though, and I would like to recover it. [more inside]

How to get a perscription for Modafinil?

I have to work night shifts three nights a week, and it has turned me into a zombie. I strongly suspect I have shift work sleep disorder. I've done a lot of reading, and I think Modafinil (Provigil/Alertec) is right for me. I'm a healthy, non-depressed young man, not on any medications. How do I ask a doctor for it without getting the run around? Canadian, if it matters. Since I don't have a family doctor, I have to go to a clinic where the doctors usually rush things, and I'm worried the doctor will be unfamiliar with Modafinil and simply say no. [more inside]

29 and exhausted... what could be wrong?

I'm an otherwise healthy 29 year old male who easily gets exhausted and mentally foggy on a regular basis, sometimes seemingly without cause. Not normal-tired, but feeling as if I were 80 years old.
