Do athletes have musical bodies too?

I think I'm in okay shape. I lift weights 4 times a week, play soccer and have a good diet filled with vegetables, fruit and lean proteins. My body makes all kinds of crazy cracking noises (from my ankles to my shoulders) during and after exercise. Do professional athletes have this problem or am I not in as good shape as I thought?

Any pointers about running with Pointers?

My dog is very active. I like to jog long distances. When we run on the lead he pulls and gets distracted by wildlife. Is there a better lead solution? Personal electric fence? How can I get him to run by my side? Must he be condemned to a mostly sedentary lifestyle? He is a Pointer.

Walking a half marathon

I want to walk a half marathon. My city's marathon is next fall, so I have plenty of time to get ready. I found various training plans online that range from 12-16 weeks, but that's really not what my question is about. I'm wondering, since I have almost a year till then, what should I do be doing now? Does it matter? I'm in good health but haven't exercised consistently lately. Also, general walking-a-half advice is very welcome!

Walking a 5K

I just signed up for a 5K on Dec. 3. I'm certainly not ready to RUN 3.1 miles, so I'm going to walk it (and the event is called a run/walk, so it is a walker-friendly race, at least). What kind of training can I do before then to do my best that day, since there's barely any time left? I'm at a healthy weight and in OK shape but usually only exercise one or two times a week. I'd like my time to be under one hour, if possible. Tips? (Bonus question: are most 5Ks walker-friendly?)

Why do I get so shaky when exercising?

I am an overweight woman in my late 30's and I have been trying to add more exercise to my life. I am about 100 lbs overweight and since I am really, really out of shape I've only been doing 20-30 minutes per session. I've been finding that anytime I do anything physical, even a mild walk, I get shaky and lightheaded and I sweat profusely. It feels very similar to a low blood sugar feeling. I have this experience both when I have eaten recently before exercising, and when I have not. [more inside]
