Trying to find the perfect birthday present for my husband, and I'd really like to get him something like my Fitbit Flex, as we are both working on being more active and losing some weight. However, his major form of exercise is pretty hardcore Masters swimming; I'd love a gadget that will track his swimming plus all the other activity in a day-chasing kids, playing soccer, walking, etc. Any thoughts? Any experience with the new Misfit Shine, for instance?

Thanks to following the advice from some previous AskMeFi threads, I have finally gotten back into a regular workout routine. I am still working to find a set of exercises I can alternate between that make the best use of the time I have and that I do not dread doing. I've found that I really appreciate exercises that work multiple parts of the body simultaneously (I think it keeps me from focusing on how unpleasant the strain on any one body part is), especially ones that work my core without having to do situps. For example, squats combined with overhead press. Googling hasn't been that fruitful. What are some other exercises or combination of exercises that I can use to maximize my workout? I do not have a gym membership, but I have a good set of free weights and resistance bands at my disposal.

My mid back length hair is very thick and is color treated. I've been thinking about lap swimming for exercise, but how can I manage my hair? I usually wash it once a week, do not use hair dryers and like to let it air dry. It usually takes several hours for my hair to air dry, which is fine for once a week, but I can't imagine having wet hair 5 days a week. Another concern is the chlorine effecting the dark blonde color and turning it green. A swim cap would be logical, but my research shows they are not waterproof. Kinda fit 20ish guy in NYC looking for classes that have physical activity as a large component. I feel like I have been constantly tired for the past 2 or so months. I am tired from the moment I wake up until I go to bed at night and often have trouble keeping my eyes open during the day. I also suffer terribly from headaches and general neck and shoulder stiffness which adds to the fatigued feeling. I have been to the doctor and everything appears to be normal including iron levels, and also I'm not depressed. Also it’s coming up the anniversary of the death of a loved one so I wonder if that’s having an effect. I eat relatively well and make/eat a lot of home cooked meals. I’m hoping for some ideas on how I can beat this tiredness and find some motivation and energy in my life. This year I made a resolution for healthier living and have been successful so far. Overcame a lot of bad habits compared to where I started. But I'm going on a cruise with a group of friends next month. From what I've been told it's going to be an around the clock buffet. I currently use Endomondo to track my skating workouts. I like it a lot, but miss two things: 1) I would love to be able to analyze part of the workout as if it was an entire workout. Say, if I skated from point A to Z, I want to see the average speed over part L to R. 2) I would love more personal bests. For skating, Endomondo starts the personal bests at 3 miles or 5 km. I want to see my personal best 1 km or mile too. With time, they track most kms in one hour, but I rarely skate one hour, I want to track half hours. I know that I could switch my activity type to a different one for which they do track other distances/times, but I don't want to do that. I am looking for either a web application that accepts .gpx files that I can export from Endomondo, or a new app (should work on both iOS and Android) that can also export to .gpx.

I do not have adequate health insurance, am self-employed, and any injury that might prevent me from working steadily would be economically problematic (ok, disastrous). I also would like to begin riding my bicycle again as a form of exercise and enjoyment. Would the health benefits of biking outweigh the risk of injury? I would be primarily riding on designated bike trails, not public roads. I'm somewhat paranoid because a friend (with good insurance, fortunately) had a mishap on a bike trail that required surgery.
