I've been doing regular push-up sets three days each week, and am pleased with the results. How do I maintain my current state of arm-shape, without getting still bulkier or losing any of it? Do I simply keep doing the number of reps/days that I have been doing to this point? Or is there an always-increasing threshold I need to aim for?

ExerciseFilter: I've been doing the gym thing at least 3x per week for about 3 or 4 months now. Strength training and cardio mix. About 6 weeks ago, I started Trileptal as a mood stabilizer (I am not epilectic). I am on no other meds. It's the type of drug where you ramp up your dosage over a period of time. In the last two weeks, my low THR feels like my heart is pounding as if I'd just been in car accident. [more inside]

A trainer at my gym recommended this workout and I'm not entirely sure it's safe or effective or the right one for me. I've itemized the routine below, but in short it involves both upper and lower body workout every day, Monday through Friday, three sets of 10 -12, with one muscle group off per day after what he considers the toughest exercise for that body part. I've been lifting weights for a long time, but recently decided to switch from the machines to mostly free weights and cable lifts. I've done a lot of reading on the subject, and have cobbled together the following routine that seems to be giving me some results, but I wanted opinions on what muscles I might be missing/which exercises might be superfluous. This is in regard to Curves Smart equipment, which is now available at some Curves for Women fitness facilities. Does anyone know what exactly the display depicts? Although I've seen pictures of it, which shows "Cardio", "Energy", "Range", and "Reps", I'd like to know what each one is indicating. Also, prior to the installation of the Smart upgrade, the hydraulic resistance was non-adjustable. The only way to get more resistance was to speed up. It appears that the hydraulics are still configured the same. If so, then is it safe to assume that the only way to increase intensity/resistance is to do more reps in the same 30-second time frame? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why is exercise making me feel depressed? All I read and hear is that exercise goes a long way toward alleviating depression and making one feel better. All it has done for me lately is cause mini-panic attacks in the gym, make me feel like a failure and cause me to feel depressed for hours after I work out. I am just able to get over myself for the next day just to have it all happen over again as I somehow force myself back into the gym. [more inside]

I prefer to do my fairly intense 20 min. workout first thing in the morning before I eat...else I never get it done. If I eat, then I have to wait before working out, then I get distracted, start drinking caffeine, etc. Working out in the evening doesn't really work. I work evenings and my family and I have dinner together before I leave for work. Before dinner, I'm busy doing activities with my children (my wife and I homeschool). My question is this: Is it OK to workout (lift weights, run sprints) before I eat? If I must eat first, how long must I wait before working out? How soon after taking caffeine can I workout?
