Practical alternatives to weightlifting?

I'd like to become physically stronger. I've tried weightlifting, but I have trouble staying interested in repetitive tasks without a practical, tangible goal ("get muscles" is a goal, I guess, but somehow it's not enough to keep me focused). What are some practical, everyday, hobby-like activities I can get interested in that might help me become stronger? [more inside]

Fitness/exercise tracking

Any recommendations for a fitness tracking website/app/service that meets the following requirements? I want to be able to manually enter swimming data via their android app or website, use their android app to track cycle rides on my phone, import running data from my Garmin device (forerunner something or other) or Garmin website and use the decent selection of UK food in their database to track calorie consumption. I’m not overally bothered by the community aspect (got bored of Fitocracy very quickly), I just want to get my data geek on.

Expanding fitness

I started running last year, and I really enjoy it! I've stayed relatively dedicated to the routine and genuinely look forward to it. However, I think I've pushed myself about as far as I need to with running and I'd love to expand my regiment with other activities, but I honestly don't really know anything about fitness and don't really have any friends to ask about it. How should I prepare to do Starting Strength?

I recently finished reading the weightlifting program Starting Strength and would like to try to follow it this year. However, I'm in pretty bad shape for a 26-year-old man and I have a bunch of bad habits. Given this, how should I prepare to follow Starting Strength? For instance: How should I gain flexibility beforehand, if necessary? How should I look for a good trainer and a good gym? If you've been in my situation, what worked and didn't work for you? What's the learning-for-fun equivalent in diet and exercise?

I think we learn best not through rigid reading lists and assignments but when we follow our interests freeform. Yet habits, routines, calorie counting, repetitive exercises, and other finger-wagging components of "health as a necessary chore" seem to be the prevalent attitude in nutrition and physical fitness. How could one get really healthy through the fitness and diet equivalents of reading randomly for pleasure, tinkering, exploring, and problem solving for the joy of it?

Need to exercise. Low motivation. Low willpower. Ideas?

What are some good ways to get into a modest exercise routine when you know that you lack motivation and willpower and will likely want to quit after one day? Anything from a lifehacker-y website/app/bracelet gadget that somehow guilts/encourages/blackmails you, to a person who shows up at your apartment and drags you to the gym. I live alone in Manhattan. I suffer from depression - I see a therapist and I take medication (one of the major side effects of the medication is weight gain, unfortunately). I'm not really looking for mental tricks to GET willpower - I've read posts about this - I'm looking for ways to exercise given the fact that I have very little willpower.

Help me figure out a sustainable exercise and nutrition routine

How did you get so toned? I have no idea...

I want to tone up a bit. I'm female, 30yrs, very satisfied with my weight and overall body shape. I've always been on the thin side and eat pretty healthy so I'm not looking to lose weight or improve my lifestyle. I have a lot going on right now so I don't want to commit to the gym or an exercise regimen. I just want to get toned by doing things here and there in my normal day to day life. I'm looking for ideas that I can do when I do other things, such as squats when I brush my teeth, or push ups in the ad breaks when I watch TV. Arm curls with cans of soup while waiting for the pasta to cook , that kind of thing. I'm not very creative in a fitness sense, so please help me brainstorm and get toned!
