Suggestions for gentle exercises after period of bed rest

I need advice about very gentle exercises and reconditioning after a long period of bed rest. I have a heart condition and have been very inactive for years. Recently my heart problem got somewhat better. Now I can do very light exercises. But even very gentle exercise can be a problem for me. I need advice about reconditioning safely. Also I would like suggestions for websites, books or other resources for people recovering after long periods of bed rest who are severely deconditioned. [more inside]

Best exercises for pole-dancing

I want to start taking pole-dancing classes, but I'm neither financially nor physically ready for them. I hope to start this winter, but in the meantime I'm going to the gym and lifting 2-4 times a week. What are the best exercises/lifts I can do that will help me get ready for pole-dancing specifically? Early 30s, female, terrible cardio capacity but can deadlift my body weight so far. My gym is pretty basic, with the usual weight machines, free weights, benches, etc. No kettlebells or rings, unfortunately, nor will I have access to an actual pole. Thanks!

Too Much Sugar in my blood, but how?

Results from my annual show most things A-OK but one red flag -- a fasting blood sugar level of 108 mg/dl, which I read places me in pre-diabetes territory. This hit me like a sledgehammer because I simply cannot figure out how or why I would have this number considering my generally healthy, low-carb diet and decent weight. Some answers would be most welcome. Read on please. [more inside]

Aerobic exercise on "rest days" for sleep?

I often have a hard time falling asleep; intense aerobic exercise goes a long way toward remedying this problem. Still my beating heart

I have a very fast heart rate while exercising: 160 or so at a brisk walk; 190 at a light jog; over 200 with more strenuous exercises. I am out of shape right now and have never been in athlete condition, but I have also never been sedentary (bike commuted 10 miles each day up until an injury last year, garden, walk my dog two miles a day, etc.), and my heart rate went just as high when I was in better shape.
