Depictions of exercise in science fiction?

In the classic Total Recall there's an amazing scene of Sharon Stone receiving virtual tennis instruction. There's an incredible jogging scene in 2001. I am probing the hive to find more depictions of science fictional takes on personal fitness, training and athletics. I am more interested in futuristic and novel forms of exercise rather than the usual dystopian violence of things like "Rollerball". What does the gym of the future look like?

Exercise Planning

I recently bought a meal plan subscription where once a week you get a grocery list, 5ish recipes to batch cook, and then dinners for each day of the week that come together in about 15ish min or less, based on the food you batch-cooked. This has been a godsend for me. I want the same thing, but for exercise. [more inside]

Shortening "warm up" time for running and cycling

On a long bike ride a few weeks ago, my husband made an offhand comment that whenever I tell him I think it'll be a short ride/run/hike right after starting out, he ignores it because I always seem to catch a second wind right at 45 minutes and then I am ready to continue on with intense exercise for several more hours. I've started paying attention during my workouts and he's totally right. Those first 45 minutes really suck, though. Is there any way to train my body to shorten this "warm up" time? [more inside]

I'm a "skinny-fat" female - whats the best way to get toned?

I've always been told I'm skinny by my peers. I'm a female, 5'8", and currently 129 pounds. But I feel that my fat percentage overall is definitely rising, although look-wise I might look relatively the same. Ever since I stopped playing sports I've been getting a little flabbier. My friends say don't worry you're still so skinny, but I want to be toned and lean, instead of "skinny-fat". Whats the best way? [more inside]

Running advice for a complete and total noob.

I have recently decided that I would like to start running a few times a week for exercise with the dog. I have learned a lot in the two weeks that I have been trying this thing out, but I feel like I may be doing some things wrong. Looking for advice about pre-running/post running routines that may help out with leg pain... specifically... shin splints. Or any other good advice for someone who literally knows nothing about running. [more inside]

Why scapular protraction during some pressing exercises and not others?

I know with an exercise like the bench press you should keep your shoulder blades retracted throughout. However, I've also read that with push ups some people recommend scapular protraction at the top. Testing it out, it does feel easier on the shoulders doing it that way. However, I'm having trouble understanding the mechanics of why that is the case. Where would, say, a standing cable press fall in this retraction vs protraction dichotomy?

How often can I work out? (Strength training)

Currently I'm seeing a trainer twice a week for an hour each time, and working out on my own one other day. It is exclusively strength training, mostly involving resistance bands, dumbbells, cables, and leg extensions. Customizable exercise app/video?

I love love love Yourself!Fitness, but it doesn't work on my new PC. Are there other apps (Windows/Android) which have the same features? Namely, that you can set/choose: duration, equipment, type of exercise (cardio/strength/stretch), and difficulty level. Plus it always gives you randomized exercises, so the workout is never completely the same. I'd like something where I can press "start" and just go, without having to look up different exercises or download videos, and it would give me a long-term program, so I can gradually level up. Spin workout app

a new study proposes that a 10 minute sprint interval training (SIT) routine provides benefits comparable to a 45 minute moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) routine when performed 3 times a week. I like to try it, but it would be way easier if I could find an app for my phone which would let me enter the time intervals and intensity levels for the routine, as there are 7 intervals in the routine, 3 of them lasting only 20 seconds. Anyone know of an android app which runs user defined, timed routines? All the spin apps I've found want me to pay for a predetermined class.
