What happens to Windows Parent Domain if Child Disappears?

Windows Domain Filter: In a parent/child domain scenario, where Active Directory and Exchange data is being replicated between the two domains over a VPN, what risk is there to the parent domain if the link to the child domain goes dark forever? A company has two offices. Office A houses the servers responsible for the parent domain, and Office B houses the servers responsible for the child domain. What needs to happen at Office A to protect or clean up its own network if, from its perspective, Office B ceases to exist?

Sysadmin advice for a first timer?

I'm starting a new job as a system administrator for small business in a few weeks, what can I do to prepare myself? I'm quite excited about this position but I've never been a sysadmin before. I've done desktop support (which I'm quite good at) and tons of web programming but have never done server support and have never been the only IT person at a business.

It's a Windows XP environment with about 35 users and there is talk of moving to Exchange soon after I arrive. I will also have access to some contractors who will do much of the server set up and config.

Any advice tech gurus?

(I've already purchased the book "The Practice of System and Network Administration" by Thomas A. Limoncelli)

Anyone with experiance in making MS Exchange work with SpamAssassin without having a Linux Box on hand?

I work at a small company with an Exchange server. We need OK spam protection. In an effort to move them to a more FOSS workcycle, I'm advocating SpamAssassin. Basically, I need it to work in our Windows Environment. We currently run NO Linux boxes, and while we're not at all against virtualization (in fact I'm pushing for us to get a copy of VMWare Workstation for our beefy new server), it needs to be simple. I tried downloading the Embeded version of Damn Small Linux, but it is a pain to get it so it can save (as near as I can tell), so that's a no go. Any other ideas? I'd run it on Windows but the walk through confuses me (even the easy one). Again, I'm not against Linux, but it has to be easy (preferably drop in). Has anyone used Spam Vigilante? Is it simple (and by simple, I mean assume I'm an idiot :D)? Oh, and does it work with Exchange (I don't see it mentioned but maybe I'm blind)?

Ok, thanks a lot in advance! I really appricate your feedback!

What is the smallest Parallels Desktop image of Windows XP that will fit corporate needs?

What is the lightest, meanest, most-secure image of Windows XP Corporate I can install onto my MacBook Pro that will allow me to use Corporate MS Exchange Email, Visio, and IE-only intranet? I have a Macbook Pro that I use in a corporate environment via Parallels desktop. We use Exchange 2k3 for email and groupware. All the software I run is (and must be) legal and licensed. I am looking for the lightest, quickest, legal image of XP SP2 with all hotfixes and NO BLOAT. There are a lot of parallels users here in the green; I ask the hive mind: what image should I use? Bonus points if it won't crash the LinkedIn.com toolbar and is Google Earth Professional friendly.

Teach my PC some PDA-cleverness...

How does my Windows Mobile PDA communicate with our office Exchange Server successfully without using a VPN, when I have to use a VPN with Microsoft Outlook to get at it?

(And then are there any PC-based programs that can use the same technique as the PDA?)

Anyone with a good handle on getting a Vista client to play nice with a Win 2k server?

Anyone have any Windows networking experiance? I'm in need! I'm sitting at work, trying to get a new computer on our network. I'm kinda new at this place, and don't really have the whole place figured out. I need somehow have this shiny new Vista (business ed.) PC boot into the, er, "Network Logon" screen that our older 2k boxes do. Crap, I really wish I knew more about networking. :(

I KNOW there must be a way to do this in Vista. I think we're authenticating against an Exchange server, or Active Directory, or something. Somehow we've got all the same logins at all the computers. Except the Vista one. :(

Thanks in advance, ask if you have any qualifying questions!

Can I sync 2 Outlooks to 1 PocketPC?

ActiveSync question -- Can I sync 2 Outlooks to 1 PocketPC? Hello everyone!

THE INTRO:
* 1 new Smartphone PocketPC (Verizon if you must know)
* 2 Outlook 2003 setups
- WORK: standard corporate Exchange setup
- HOME: mail2web.com Personal Exchange

THE PROBLEM IN NEED OF A SOLUTION:
* I would like to view parts of both setups from my PocketPC while I'm on the road.

* Specifically, I would like to view/send/receive email *ONLY from the HOME/mail2web setup --AND--- view/edit *just* the Calendar, Notes, and Tasks lists from the WORK setup.

* You're probably asking "why?" The reason for the two setups is because we get an AWFUL amount of spam at work (I am the PR person at my work and I am included on a public address that ten others are cc'd on).

THE QUESTIONS:
* First, is this even possible?

* Second, if it is not possible, how about being able to view/edit/send/receive 2 different Outlook setups on 1 PocketPC?

* Third, is there a good tutorial on ActiveSync and Windows Mobile 5.0 somewhere online?

How do I get mobile activesync working?

How do I get mobile ActiveSync working with Exchange 2003 on Windows Server 2003? The "OWA" page is working and I can't for the life of me get these batch of Sprint smartphones to use the ActiveSync function when not docked. The error I get across the board is "0x80072f17". After entering the domain and site name (exchange.server.com) the progress bar never increases and it says "Syncing folders" or something general and stays that way for a good hour before returning 0x80072f17. I was getting "Server cannot be reached" then I enable port 443 on the firewall (apparently SSL must be used, that's fine). I'm seriously out of ideas, I can't find the error code 0x80072f17 anywhere and thought I'd finally tap into the collective consciousness.
