I am accessing my work email using gmail, and I need help satisfying my company's backup requirements. Help?

I am accessing my work email using gmail, and I need help satisfying my company's backup requirements. Help? We use Exchange at work (MS Exchange 2007), and I am on a mac. I don't like Entourage, so I have been accessing my email via POP on a gmail account. I am very happy with this setup.

The problem is that since it's POP, emails that I send from gmail are not synced back to the Exchange server, which means they are not backed up with all the other company emails. If I want to continue using gmail, I have to figure out a way to get my outgoing emails backed up.

Gmail cannot fetch emails via IMAP, only POP, so that's not an option.

I considered OSX Mail, Entourage and Thunderbird, but I find Gmail to be far superior.

The only option I've thought of is this... to have all my outgoing emails automatically bcc'ed to an internal email address, which we would set up just for this purpose. Then all my outgoing emails would be backed up. I haven't been able to figure out how to do this in gmail.

Can anyone help? Please don't make me use Entourage!

Help me get Entourage to play nice with my company's exchange server.

I need help fixing a problem with email on my Macbook. I am trying to get Entourage to play nice with my office's exchange server. I am running the latest version of Entourage on my Macbook (OSX Leopard).

I can get it to connect to my exchange server when I'm in the office by listing the exchange server as "fs1". With those settings, it doesn't connect when I am out of the office.

When I am out of the office, I have to change the exchange server setting to our exchange server address (our domain name, and then "/exchange". This setting does not work when I am in the office.

There are other problems - when I send an email from Entourage, it is not visible in Outlook back in the office (on my PC). Also, I'm not able to view our company's public contact lists on Entourage.

How can I set up Entourage to work both in and out of the office, and properly sync sent mail?

I am not against using Mac's Mail program or something else, if it will work better.

Thanks for any help.

Day of the Deleted Message part 17

I have a long-winded question about deleting zombie messages from Apple's mail.app. I am trying to get rid of some unwanted email on my Mac, and finding it surprisingly difficult.

Mac OSX 10.4, downloading email from a Microsoft exchange server by POP3 because that's what the IT guys said to do.

Once a week or so I get an email that's really intended for somebody else with the same name as me in the same organization. The emails have 300-odd addresses in the the "To:" line, including a dozen or so distribution lists, to one of which I must have been mistakenly added. I have no idea how to get myself off these lists, so that is unfortunately not the answer.

Anyway, Mail.app just stalls and has to be force-quit when trying to download these messages. I then log into webmail, delete the offending message, and everything's OK again.

Except there are a whole bunch of these messages on my computer now, and try as I might I can not delete them. They just respawn. If I move them to a folder, they respawn in my inbox and now I have more copies. I have tried the rebuild mailbox command. I have tried deleting .emlx files that contain these messages - this deletes the contents of the messages, but the headers seem to stay in the system somewhere, and now my inbox is full of disembodied headers.

Does anybody have any ideas what else I can do? Are there other files I can delete without borking up all the rest of my mail? (My saved mail from my boss and colleagues is important, and there's many megabytes of it). Can I edit some file somewhere by hand to remove database lines containing a certain string? Can I export and reimport my messages in a way that will allow me to strip out the dodgy ones? Is there some Voodoo trick that might help? I have googled extensively, but the universal answer seems to be "rebuild mailbox", which just doesn't help.

MacBook + Exchange + Air Force = trouble?

MacBook + Exchange + Air Force = trouble? A friend of mine is a pilot in the Air Force. He has an HP/WinXP laptop that's dying and wants to replace it. He uses Microsoft Outlook at home and for work and has, I believe, some Windows-based, Air Force-specific apps that could be problematic. I know enough about Macs to know about Boot Camp and Parallels, but I've never used Entourage or tried to make a Mac play friendly with a Windows-centric office. Will he be in a world of hurt if he goes against the grain and gets a MacBook?

Dual boot seems an easy fix for most things. But, if he hates Entourage or can't get it to play friendly with the local IT department's Exchange server, is running Outlook via Parallels all the time an option? Or would that just be too much trouble?

Can Entourage and Exchange be friends?

Help me make Entourage and Webmail play with each other. I have a coworker that heads up our PR for Athletics, on a mac. Currently he's on an IMAP server and checks webmail (Mirapoint) as well. He has a lot of groups in Entourage that he has created and would like them to be available in webmail for when he is on the road. Of course we've run into some difficulties.

Switching him to exchange didn't work, all the groups are local and there are no contacts associated with the groups. Outlook Web Access also does not have an import contacts feature. We put him back on IMAP and that webmail does have an import feature, however I can't find a way of exporting a group of contacts. The only way we've found works so far is to drag all contacts from a group into the address book so the corresponding contacts are created, then export the whole list and upload into webmail, which means he still has to go back and create the groups manually.

Am I missing something? Is there an easier way to either sync this all up with Exchange or export a set list instead of the entire contact list?

How can I convert Mac Outlook 2001 PST files to Windows Outlook 2003 PST files?

Is there a way to convert a .PST file created by Outlook 2001 for the Mac into a .PST file that can be read by Outlook 2003 on the PC?
Our company's e-mail is run on Exchange. Our marketing department uses mostly Macs. Up until now, we've been using Outlook 2001 in Classic mode. The new Intel Macs won't run Classic applications though.

So, I have some options. I can migrate the department to Entourage, or we can run the Windows version of Outlook using Parallels or some other option that I don't know about that you all can tell me about.

Entourage is Microsoft's recommended upgrade path, but it doesn't really work for us. The mail server admin doesn't want to enable a few critical services. As a result, we can't send mail. Also, I'd need a way to get access to 6+ years of past e-mail archives. I've tried Microsoft's PST import tool that is supposed to convert 2001 PST files into files that Entourage can use. In the past, it lost the full name of the senders in favor of the user name which I didn't like. Now, it's telling me that my 2001 PST files are corrupt or that they weren't created by Outlook 2001. Outlook 2001 still reads the files with no problem. Is there some way to repair them as far as PST Import is concerned?

Parallels seems to work (although it's sort of a resource hog, and I can't figure out how to do it over wireless. It connects to our network with no problem if I'm wired, but the router seems to get in the way if I'm using wireless -- despite the fact that the Mac can see the corporate network without a problem over wireless). However, I still need to find a way to get my archived e-mail into a format that works on Windows. Is there a tool out there that will do that? I'd hoped I could just copy the PST files over and it would work, but they seem to be different formats for some stupid reason.

As an aside, is it possible to use the same install of XP for both Parallels and Bootcamp? I suspect not, but it would be sweet if it was possible.

Or, is there a better method for using/archiving Exchange based e-mail on a Mac that won't run Classic?

How to delete mail without first moving it to the trash?

In Entourage 2004, with an exchange account, is there a way to immediately delete selected messages without first having to move them to the Deleted Items folder? I'm supporting a user who recently imported about a gig worth of email from his Eudora mail folders into Entourage. Turns out the import "lost" the correct received time stamp and now all those messages are timestamped with the date they were imported. I'm trying to delete all (>90,000) the messages without having to first move them to the Deleted Items folder, which nearly doubles the time it takes to delete them.

Any ideas?
