Excel Question - Is there a way in Excel to evaluate whether a cell contains text that is in all caps as opposed to proper (first letter) caps. I know I can force cells into Upper or Proper, but I don't want to do that, i just want to flag and sort them.

I have a mountain of data to move from dozens of Excel spreadsheets into an Access database. The database is an existing one and sort-of documented. How do I go about doing this? I’m very comfortable with Excel, but not at all with Access---I’ve never used it before. How do I push Excel data into Access records? Are there any web resources I could use? Any books I should buy?

Microsoft Excel 2000 v 9.0 - is there some way to stop excel from automatically turning email addresses into hyperlinks? Not just turning off the 'blue and underlined' format but actually not making them links. I've done it before in other versions of excel but I can't find a way to do it in this version. Thanks!

ExcelFilter: I've got a specific problem in mind [inside for the curious/helpful], but more importantly I'm looking for an advanced tutorial for excel. I'm looking to go from someone who is confident with excel to being a full-on pro. Books are ok, but I'd prefer internet (i.e. free) resources. I am using Office v.X for Mac, but I think most techniques will translate pretty well across platforms. I'm looking for things like recursive formulas, modeling theory, little-known tools/techniques, pivot tables, etc.

RE:
Excel: I have an Excel spreadsheet where one column is filled with dates — but the dates aren't showing up properly in the spreadsheet. Instead of looking like a date, they are flat numbers (02/29/2004 is rendered "36584" in the display) — even though the proper date is revealed in the FORMULA BAR as I select each cell. I've set the text type to DATE in the FORMAT dialog... I've even tried setting the text type to PLAIN TEXT. No go. Strangely, the numbers increment with the date (03/07/2004 is "36591"), so I'm guessing there's some equation going on. Suggestions on getting the dates to render properly would be appreciated.

Is there a way to cut'n'paste charts from Excel into Word, without generating huge Word files? I've tried varieties of paste, 'paste special,' and so on, and I can't figure out why an Excel file of charts that's several hundred KB, always turns into a Word file that's at least several MB. I guess I'm missing something obvious, but have no idea what it is.

Yo,
skryche! How do I keep Excel from hotlinking URLs as I paste them into cells? I use spreadsheets to store, sort, and transform lots of URLs. But Excel seems to think that anything beginning with "http://" is something I want blue and underlined and hotlinked for easy clicking. It doesn't happen right away, only once I leave the cell does it become a hot link. I'd like Excel to just leave my text strings alone. I don't want to launch a browser window every time I click in a cell that contains a URL. And I'm tired of doing the right-click-remove-hyperlink thing every single time. Formatting the column as plain text before dropping in the URL *doesn't* work. As soon as you paste a URL into a cell, Excel wakes up, decides to "preserve the formatting" of your pasted text, and voila! A nice blue hot link. Is there a preference I can un-check for this?
Sorry if this is a stupid one. I can't find anything in the help documentation or via Google that solves my stupid problem.

Excel query. I have two Excel spreadsheets that I want to have automativally update each other. But, the format that they are in is generally incompatible. These are used as scheduling documents for the place where I work.
One spreadsheet is very wide. It lists each individual person at the top and their personal schedule below it. It lists breaks using "ONE" as the first half of a 30 minute block, "TWO" as the second half of a 30 minute block, and "LONG" as the entire 30 minute block.
The other spreadsheet is much less wide. It has 7 days listed and three columns. One is for "LONG" one is for "ONE" and the third is for "TWO." In each column, each person's name is entered in the appropriate block as defined in the first spreadsheet.
Can I get those two to talk to each other? Can I tell the first spreadsheet that if the word "TWO" is in a certain field to put the name of that person in another field on another spreadsheet?
