I run a small monthly arts event. We do publicity with posters and online through social media (no budget for buying ads) and also have an sponsorship with a local radio station to promote us online and on-air. When I say "we" I mean "me" because I'm the only one who handles all that. We have a website, Twitter, Facebook that I keep updated. But a few people have told me I should collect attendees' email addresses and keep a list and send out notifications that way. [more inside]

My brother's wife is due to have a baby boy sometime this month. I will be an uncle for the first time. The baby shower is taking place this upcoming Sunday. My girlfriend since May of last year is not a big fan of my brother. She hasn't even met him to begin with. She felt that he flaked out on me during my college graduation and birthday last year. I'm considering forming an LLC, purchasing an event property (former church), and renting it as an additional income source - primarily for weddings and catered events. Assume I'm completely green in this industry - which is almost true. [more inside]
Nonprofit cultural organization having a summer event next week with half-hour auditorium time (on screen and live program) then move to restaurant/bar for cocktails...with the friendly "ask" to 50+ people. We have the one-page backgrounder all set. Need help with super-short text for a small-format giving reminder to have on tables and hand out. Perhaps a 4"x6" picture postcard with brief information on the other side? What's the most effective way to state the request/reminder in an appealing way? Just the contact information or is that too brusque? Examples?
I thought I saw a recent announcement for a panel including Israeli author Amos Oz in New York City (perhaps as panel moderator). Now I can't remember where I saw it and Google hasn't been any help. Anyone know of a recent appearance in NYC or an upcoming one?
Sounds simple, but we were wondering because in 2000 for religious reasons they cut opium production and we're curious where they stand.
One of the downsides of being born in mid-January is that it's always snowing, which leads to a certain inertia when it comes to birthday parties. People don't like to expend the effort to come to a birthday until they think it's going to be exceptionally fun. [more inside]
Please help me find a website I used last week that shows you public Facebook events for your city, broken down by date, and - rather uniquely for such websites - lists the confirmed attendees by their self-selected Facebook gender! When you clicked on an event, it would pull up a map, and a list of the attendees, and then give you the option to click through to the Facebook event page. It was such a great resource and it's killing me to not be able to find it anymore!

Berlin. Will be there celebrating my son's birthday, between 25th and 28th of september. He runs a cool restaurant in Stockholm, loves beer, football and music and will be 47. I am 70 love museums, art shows, wine -and still like whooping it up. Will be staying in Kreuzberg. What shouldn't we miss?

Looking for a suitable Chicago/Midwest place to have a really big party. Outside. Unless it's raining.

I'm an American moving to London soon. Because I don't know anyone there, I'm going to try to join some groups, take classes, and volunteer to meet people and generally just get out of my house. Of course, finding available classes and volunteering opportunities is easy, but it's considerably harder to figure out which ones are actually likely to be worthwhile. What groups, volunteer organizations, classes, and events venues have you had the best experiences with? [more inside]
