Tonight I'll be the middleman between 1000+ audience members who are asking questions via social media, and folks moderating a panel. Thoughts on tools or tips for success? [more inside]
Story: I purchased tickets from a ticket vendor for an event. They have a no refund policy unless the show is cancelled. When I got to the event it was a complete mess getting in. There weren't enough check points in the lines or security guards to help with the traffic flow. Management put the attendees in danger by overselling tickets. People were being pushed and close to being trampled on waiting in line, and there was no exit out of the line once you got in. I waited 2 hours and was extremely disappointed by the disorganization and greediness of the management, and promoters. I have attended a number of similar events and this was by far the worst experience ever. [more inside]
Last year, for a fundraiser, my organization had a paint-and-wine night. It was very successful and we'd like to do it again, but we're wondering -- is paint-and-wine still a thing, or is it played out? Is there some other X-and-wine activity we should do? Or will paint-and-wine still be a draw? [more inside]
My main question is- if I take a day off work and go all the way up to NH on Monday, what are the chances that I'll actually get into the Clinton/Warren rally? If anyone has been to a Clinton rally recently, how early do I have to line up for a good chance at getting in? If I bring my 6 year old will it be a miserable experience for both of us?
I'm hoping to organize a party with about 40 people in the next few weeks in Vancouver, BC. Ideally, it would be in a place that would have a low spend-limit, or free. Not picky about location. It would be more drinks than dinner, although I could order some apps for sharing. Does anyone have any leads or previous experience with this? I'm doing this a bit last minute and not super hopeful, but if the geniuses of AskMe can help, I would be ever indebted!
The small natural history museum I work at is looking for a way to let visitors tag photos on instagram (or twitter, or facebook, or whatever, but instagram is the one they asked me about) with a hashtag about our upcoming temporary exhibit, to be displayed on a 60" display in the gallery. The exhibit opens next week. The service we used for this last time shut down last week. All the other services I can find either have no moderation tools or are super expensive. Help? [more inside]
What poems / readings would you recommend for a 50th Anniversary? My parents have been having health issues so I would prefer to avoid the usual "ha ha you're falling apart" joke poems about pills and getting infirm. They are somewhat stoic but have a good sense of humor.
MeFi, you've saved me in the past, asking you to come through again! I'm trying to find events very similar to WaterFire Providence, can be but does not have to be "art" project, but am looking for festivals that feature pylons in rivers, ponds, lakes, bayou on fire. Trying to set one up down here in Louisiana but not finding too much in the way of how to get started or if these events exist outside of Providence, RI and Sharon, PA (the only two places I found that host WaterFire events). Thank you!
Birthday wish for my wife: Is it possible to get tickets to, or when does one need to show up to get into a NH Democratic Town hall when one is a Democrat in MA? [more inside]
Looking for the latest answer to this ongoing question: what's the best/easiest site/app for people to upload event photos (probably, but not necessarily, taken with their phone)? It would be great if there was an "invite your friends" feature.
Hi folks, I am helping organize a conference for about 1000 attendees in San Francisco next year. I have only been to an event at Fort Mason Center in the past. Any good venue recommendations? It would help if you can explain why you like it. Also looking for local production, caterer, etc...vendors if you know of any good folks. Thanks!
I'm on a committee that is being asked for a grant of $10,000 to produce a 3-hour continuing education program for lawyers. The venue is free of charge, and the speakers will be members of the bar association sponsoring it, so I assume they are not charging either. The bar will not charge admission; they will make the program streamable from their website. [more inside]
Have you ever been to an event that had something really fun and cool, that got you to whip out your phone and take a photo, that made you go "wait, this is free?" An example from a party I've been to recently is having screen printers make t-shirts and tote bags for attendees from designs they chose right there in front of them. More examples inside. Seeking recommendations on a provider who can set up wifi for a small event in a large room in San Francisco that has Ethernet but no wifi. [more inside]
My friend works in a US university library. They are trying to design a major event, basically a milestone/anniversary, and are trying to come up with ideas. The "anniversary task force" have so far come up with a flash mob, but this seems perhaps a little 2013(?) and cliched. They are ideally looking for contemporary things that are not hugely expensive or difficult to organize, and have little risk of incident, hassle or legal problems. Bonus if they are things that can be recorded for posterity and used in future library publicity.
I volunteer for an annual event that's close to my heart, but don't fit in with my fellow volunteers. Should I go back next year or give up this part of my life? [more inside]

We have booked a big room for our wedding, and I would like to produce a professional looking room plan. Any suggestions for good software? What do event planners use? I have experience with drafting software but only expensive programs like AutoCAD that I don't currently have access to. Mac or PC is fine.
Surprising my boyfriend with a man-weekend. What does that mean? [more inside]
Have you ever been on a corporate team-building event you really liked? To which you would have gone even if you weren't paid? I need to organize an event for 18 guys at my company, and I hate corporate stuff and don't want it to suck. Details inside. [more inside]
I'm helping publicize an event via Facebook and print fliers. I would love to be able to include a URL for the Facebook event on the fliers, but the one that Facebook provides is a long string of nonsense. [more inside]
Family trip coming up, and I need advice on helping my five-year-old daughter manage sleep-deprivation and jetlag. In the context of a wedding weekend, with all the attendant social and behavioral expectations. With bonus similarly-aged relative who brings out her most rambunctious side. What can I do by way of scheduling, boundaries, etc., to keep this sane while still being polite? [more inside]
What outside-the-box-color nail polish would best accent a black cocktail dress (with silver accent beading) and silver shoes? [more inside]
I'm having a difficult time finding interesting summer solstice (June 21st) events in Derbyshire, Leicestershire or Nottinghamshire this year. By events, I mean actual solstice-related events e.g. traditional customs or folklore rituals, morris dancing, pagan events, or astronomical things. Either are there any, or (even better) are there online listings for such events?
I've been invited to attend an anniversary dinner/fundraiser for a regional nonprofit advocacy group. I'll be attending as a guest of a work-related higher-up, and the event will doubtless involve a bunch of professional networking small talk. They're calling it a gala... but the event starts at 5:30, with dinner at 6:30. What on earth do I wear? [more inside]
Is there a site that tracks events happening on the National Mall? [more inside]
I volunteered to plan an event for Saturday, 3/29 that will include dinner for about 40 adults. For the most part, planning is in good shape, but we still need a caterer. We're probably looking at a budget of $300-400, serving around 9pm, no booze. There may be a possibility of using the venue's caterer, but I want to get a feel for fallback options. Anyone out there have a good caterer for me, or advice around hiring caterers in general? I have never done this before.
Does anyone know what the last segregated event was in the US ? I'm curious about "major events", say around 10,000 people. [more inside]
So this November I worked on some freelance event gigs throughout NYC-- it was similar to the film production work I'm looking to get into, required some related skills and I worked alongside some people with experience in the film industry. I've been looking high and low for similar work-- stage building, rigging, that sort of thing. Following that seasonal gig, I tried to look on Craigslist, Indeed, even Mandy for related event work but was lost-- despite the fact that I'd worked with people who seemed to imply that they'd found event work through similar avenues. I'm going to an event in union square NYC where we'll be writing positive messages on poster board and holding them up in public for day/mood brightening purposes. I'm looking for inspirational things to put on my sign. [more inside]
I've got a notion to organize a movie screening of some sci-fi movie at a local theater, and sell tickets. It seems to me that the easiest legal way to do this is to buy the performance rights and rent a screen at a franchise theater. Assuming I know ahead of time what those costs are, Kickstarter could be the ticket sales mechanism. [actual question inside] [more inside]
My mother recently passed away and we are looking to rent out a function space to have a gathering for 25-30 friends and relatives to get together, have a little lunch, trade stories, and generally remember her. Low-key is the general idea. Looking for recommendation for locations (hotels, inns, converted barns, restaurants) around North Orange County, California — or web resources that will have good listing of the same. [more inside]
Here's what I want Google Calendar to do: I want it to show any event details with a simple mouseover on the event, instead of a mouseover just showing the title of the event. As it is now, to see details I have to click and scroll down to the Description field, which is clunky and sucky. Is there a way to make a mouseover happen?

Help name this event: It's a day long event starting with an art show, leading into an evening of music and experiential art, and it's aim is to celebrate the creative works of those with mental illness. The higher goal is to destigmatize mental illness and educate attendees about the services available in the community. I like Revisionary Ball but someone else has claimed "Revisionary". Any ideas out there?
