Where is the best writing course in London?

Do you know of any excellent writing courses in London? I want to start developing the writing I've been doing for the last year, particularly a play I'm developing. I've been granted a scholarship to take an ARVON course, but it's only a week long, and I'd like something more substantial (without going back to a damn university) before going on to the Royal Court young writer's group in December.

My research has turned up a few tasty-looking courses at various colleges in London; London College of Journalism, CityLit, Brunel, Central St Martins, among others. Do any of you have experience or recommendations of places which are of particularly high quality? Suggestions for writers groups or workshops are also welcome.

I already have a portfolio of work I can show; I'm not a complete beginner, just very self-taught and looking for guidance as I get further into my play.

Any help would be hugely appreciated,

San Francisco filter: I'm going to be there in two weeks, and am looking for advice on getting a single ticket to see Wicked at the Orpheum -- get them ahead, or try and get them that evening? Any advantages/experiences with the show, the venue...? Caveat: I want a reasonably decent seat. Not interested in the nosebleeds. Price is always an issue, but I'm not averse to paying for a good seat.

(Also, if you have any suggestions for cool things to do evenings in SF from the 22nd to the 28th of Feb, I'm all ears, too....)

How does one develop a thriving side-consulting gig in IT? I have been doing consulting work for ~8 years privately and professionally. A couple of years ago I left the day-to-day business consulting show for a job as a glorified Network Administrator.

I would like to pickup a few side clients, but am a bit clueless what I am doing wrong. I currently have three businesses that I know casually through friends, one paid, two have dangled the idea of having work done by me -- but it never goes anywhere.

The paid jobs I do -- people seem EXTREMELY happy with the work I do (Specifically referencing the detail in documentation, the follow through, the promptness, the billing detail) -- but this never seems to translate into word of mouth "hey, our guy is great".

I posted to CRAIGSLIST locally and have done a couple of $30/fix jobs for home people (grawr stab me in the face) hoping for that to possibly translate into larger jobs -- and a few businesses did email me, but did not respond to my detailed "sales pitch" (not so much a sales pitch as a short "this is what I have done, lets meet and see if it would be a great fit, first visit is on me".

I do quite a bit of "oh sure, i'll take a look at it for you" free work on a one time basis with various groups. Is that potentially damaging chances of developing paid relationships? (Ie, the $150/h consultant is better than the dude who will take a look at it for free?)

Any thoughts on how a full time netadmin with experience doing pretty much you name it can nudge himself into the market? Is there some key part of networking/work of mouthing that I am missing?

(For what its worth, somewhat of a small town area, a few 10-15k people towns within 25 miles) lots of small businesses. A casual acquaintance who works full time in the area seems to have no problem picking up clients in a geographically similar, but sparser area.

Please help me find a black floor length formal/evening skirt.

Please help me find a black floor length formal/evening skirt. I am in a performance where I am required to wear black, and I need a black floor length skirt, preferably a full skirt, size 6 or 8. It needs to be long, even extra long since I'm tall. I haven't been able to find anything that would fit me and looks appropriate for a formal, concert occasion. Really the only things that have at least the same idea are on goth sites or are for ballroom dancing.

I'm in NYC and am female.

Anyone have any ideas for formal wear sites that would have something like this (I've looked at Saks, Barrie Pace, Nordstroms, Macy's)?
Are there any performance related sites that sell clothing like this?

Please help me find what I'm looking for. Thank you!

I can't dress myself!!!

What to wear? I don't want to commit a fashion faux pas... I am having dinner at Charlie Trotter's in Chicago this weekend. But I am a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, with little experience 'dressing up'. I thought that I could wear this really nice black dress I have, but should I wear black tights/stockings, or a color? Are black shoes ok, or would I be violating the spring dress code? Or do I need to go out and start fresh? Any helpful thoughts on fine dining?

I need to get my evening back.

Evenings suck. At about 4:pm I go into zombie mode. My last 1-2 hours at work are wasted; I loose all motivation, interest, drive... Getting home doesn't make it any better. Help me out of my evening rut. Like I wrote, I shut off at about 4:pm. If I haven't made it to the gym by 3:pm it isn't going to happen. I make stupid decisions like buying a gross snack to eat on the way home just before dinner. I walk the dog, and then sit down for 4+ hours of crappy TV. Everything I do (work, read, volunteer, keep house, have sex) happens earlier in the day. How do you keep out of soul crushing twilight ruts? Help me get out of mine.

How do you pass time on a weeknight?

You're married or single, have no kids, hold a regular job and are out of school. So what do you do in the evenings after work? I'm not looking for a new hobby per se, just trying to figure out what my peers spend their time on after the work day is done. These post work evenings of nothing to do but fiddle around with one of too many hobbies, zone out infront of the TV, and end up drinking a bit too much are starting to get to me. I'm interested in learning how common this is and what folks do to combat it.
