How do I get an evaluation for things like ADD?

The Scarlet Letter

Recently at work I was given serious feedback that others are finding me abrasive. I'm a woman, and aware of the history of application of this word unfairly, but I think there may be some truth in it in my case. I've read this and other articles about how to handle abrasive people who report to you, but I would like to hear suggestions from people who have also been in the position of receiving this label, and how you worked to overcome it, and whether your efforts have been successful. Recommended strategies appreciated. [more inside]

What research is there on the use of RCTs by the UK government?

A few years ago, Ben Goldacre and some people from the Cabinet Office published a paper, 'Test, Learn, Adapt: Developing Public Policy with Randomised Controlled Trials' calling for UK government departments to use more randomised controlled trials in the formulation and evaluation of UK public policy. Can anyone point me to research tracking RCT usage by the UK government both before and after the publication of the report? [more inside]

Employee Performance Evaluation Software

I am looking for recommendations for simple software to assist our managers with doing their employee performance evaluations efficiently and timely. Our small company has about 20 employees, and we have previously used paper evaluations but would like to move toward software for this. I would like something where the manager selects a rating for a particular category, and the software auto-fills in some generic description text that the manager can then alter. Then the form can be exported to PDF. Integrated self-evaluations would be nice, but not necessary. [more inside]

New to the professional world, how can I expect be evaluated?

I'm relatively new to the working world and I've found that I still have a lot to learn about how things "work" and have found this community to be very helpful in the past. I've only been evaluated once before by the company I posted about before. At the time I didn't realize how ridiculous and unfair/unethical their treatment of employees/clients were so I don't have a good gauge for how my current evaluation will go. I was up for my 90 day evaluation about 30 days ago for my current job and it hasn't happened yet. From my intermediate boss, I hear that its a question of how to adjust my pay that is still being discussed. What could this mean? Is it bad? This is confounded by several special circumstances (below). [more inside]

Manuscript Evaluation

Editorial Manuscript Evaluation. What does it cost? How do you find a good match? Any advice for getting value out of the service? I'm looking for a professional that can help me turn a thoroughly polished and "good as I can get it" novel length draft into something publishable. I'd love advice, because I don't want to waste my time or money on this, and I really do want it to work out. Help? Thanks!

Good questions for peer reviews.

Looking for good questions to include on job performance peer-review forms. Co-workers giving feedback about their co-workers, in other words (i.e.:"How does this person best contribute to the organization?" "Does this person complete tasks in a timely manner?" but better).

How to deal with a preschooler during a speech-language evaluation?

I'm a new student in speech-language pathology doing my first full evaluation. My client is 3 years old. I happen to be the one who screened her and remember that she's extremely shy and unwilling to cooperate. Any thoughts as to what I could do to 1) get her to go through the necessary tests, 2) elicit a language sample, and 3) get her to open her mouth for an oral mech exam? Failing that last one, any ideas for looking at oral function that make it seem like a game? One person suggested having the child blow bubbles, anything else?

How do I get me some of that?

How do small product review sites get a hold of all the products they review? For example, does DCResource actually spend $1599 in order to write this review? I understand that well-known media sources like CNET or Tom's Hardware Guide can get manufacturers to ship them evaluation units (to be returned after writing a review). But how do you go about getting to that point? And is there an on-the-cheap way of doing it without getting the manufacturer's help? A retail store with a realllly forgiving return policy, for example?
