Where can I purchase more
socks like these? Acquired by my husband over 10 years ago at an airport in the Netherlands, they are long-lasting, comfortable, made of wool, have the word "TRAIL" embroidered in red across the instep, three horizontal red stripes on the ball of the foot, and what may be a size "3-46" in red across the toe.

I recently discovered that I am well on my way to Type 2 diabetes. So I am taking the steps recommended by my docotor and everyone else: trying to lose weight, cut out sugar and simple carbs, etc.
I am curious about cross-cultural recommendations for pre-diabetics. For example, perhaps some European countries seem to think that taking B vitamins can keep diabetes at bay? Or there is some folk wisdom that recommends using teaspoons of vinegar before (after?) meals to help regulate blood sugar?
And yes, I realize that type 2 diabetes is much more common in the US than elsewhere. I'm hoping to steer this conversation away from "Americans are lazy gluttons" and more toward "here are some potentially helpful things to do that an American doctor wouldn't know to mention."

Looking for bulletproof women's sandals, preferably made in Europe. I want something that will last me years and be comfortable for daily wear and occasional long walks. The ones that were my go-to are no longer made in Europe, and lasted about 1/4 the time as the last (identical) pair.

2 part question: 1. I used to be a member of a movie site which made recommendations based on your likes and your friends likes and movies of a similar genre, but I've forgotten what it was called. Do you know of a site like that? Maybe I can recover my membership if I can find it again!
2. Can you recommend a social network for the cinema? Preferably one with similar characteristics to the one i used to know, with a good number of European & British, as well as US, content & users.

I'm trying to think of the name of a male, Eastern-European artist that made paintings of dark, unsettling landscapes. I remember being linked to a very basic webpage of his work, and I wish I could remember more details about his work. As for time period, maybe 20's-70's. Again, sorry for the lack of details. I want to say he was not well-known and did the landscapes in the 40's or 50's.

I am looking for images, or a photoblog, of eastern european villages. Think dusty, soviet bloc style, with maybe a of Borat-esque comedy. Its for a film treatment I am working on. Any help with where to get some imagery of Uzbek villages or something similar would be greatly appreciated. Even a link to a relevant Flickr pool would save me. Thanks again.

Does anyone remember a blog c. 2001-2002 purportedly written by a European woman hiding out in the Caribbean/Central America from the well-positioned family she had run away (and stolen) from? What was her pseudonym? What was the name of the blog? Is there any trace of this story (and any resolution on the question of its veracity) left on the web?

Hey I'm travelling to Europe this summer and want to go from Berlin to Prague. I found a previous post on it but it's from 2005 and the info is a little outdated so i was wondering if anyone had a good suggestion for going about getting to prague? I'm travelling with my Girlfriend and we'll be going from Prague to Munich after our stay there. Does anyone know if we can use our Eurail passes in Germany (from say berlin to dresden then switch trains to prague) or book a roundtrip ticket that will take us into Prague and then on to Munich?
All help would be appreciated! Thanks

I'm working on a story idea which involves the European witch hunts in the middle of the last millennium. I have read that they may have been caused, in part, by mass hallucinations resulting from a fungal infection on the rye crop. Rye ergot is an ingredient in the manufacture of LSD. Is there anyone who can point me to some research (valid or not) which might confirm/deny the mass hallucination angle?
