Tourist fun in northwestern Germany

Family members who will be visiting me in Amsterdam in April have requested that we spend a day in Germany. What cool stuff can we do in northwestern Germany, fairly close to the Dutch border? I'd like to keep the train trip under three hours each way (and I would love to keep the tickets under €50 per person, round trip). They don't want to travel by air or stay overnight.

* Level of touristyness can be high or low.
* Museums are fine, although history is preferred to art.
* Old buildings/castles/churches are a big plus.
* Natural beauty is a plus.
* Everyone is able-bodied, but highly physical activities like hiking or horseback riding are probably out.
* They're non-drinkers, so no beer gardens/wineries.
* We're totally limited to public transportation.

(I thought of Cologne, but it's kind of at the upper end of my travel time and cost desires.)

Warsaw to Prague to ???

With a week to spend in Europe this summer, I am going from Warsaw (2 days) to Prague (3 days) to...where? Krakow? Dresden? Berlin? I have two days and have to be back in Warsaw on the 2nd day. I'm traveling by train. What would I be an idiot to miss? I'm in my early 30s, interested in art, music, design, etc. This isn't my first trip to Europe (or Eastern Europe) and won't be my last, so even if your advice doesn't match the criteria exactly, I'd still like to hear what's interesting and cool in "the neighborhood". Thanks.

Recommend Photography Tours and Travel Workshops

I would like to find out about good providers of photography tours and/or travel-based photography workshops abroad. Preferably, the workshops should be pitched at the level of an intermediate photographer. Photographic interests: nature, landscape, architecture. Geographic interests: England, Scotland, Iceland, or other places in Europe. I'd be open to other suggestions if they are really amazing (Asia, perhaps). The teacher/tour leader should have a significant degree of experience and professionalism.

Please don't tell me about your Google searches or ads you saw. I'd much rather get in-person knowledge to find out who really stands out in this field.

What to do with 3 days outside Amsterdam?

In The Netherlands for a few days, what to see outside Amsterdam? I'm flying out to The Netherlands next week for the Pinkpop festival (subject of a previous AskMe) and have a few free days in my schedule from Tuesday the 6th to Friday the 9th. I've been to Amsterdam a couple times and would like to get outside of the city (plus I don't want the friend I'm visiting to feel like he has to entertain me the whole time I'm there).

If the weather is nice, I'm hoping to rent a bike and tour the country. Any route suggestions?

What's a good backup plan if the weather's going to be terrible?

what's cool in europe?

What do you recommend to do in Europe? My friend from Alabama is looking for ideas and advice for a vacation in Europe. He's 22, graduating from college in May, and traveling with his 25 year old sister. The plan is to go this summer but the dates are flexible; his budget is around $3000 so he estimates a two-week visit. It will be his first time in Europe so he wants to travel a fair amount. He enjoys the outdoors, partying, etc... and is open to pretty much any suggestions.

Thanks!

Tourist visas for Europe

Myself and my fiance will be travelling in Europe later this year, and he needs a visa to visit pretty much anywhere. A colleague has mentioned that there is one Europe-wide (apart from Ireland and the UK) tourist visa available, which would save us the time and expense of getting six separate visas, but I can't find any info about this. Does it exist? If so, where do we apply? Or would an e.g. French visa be valid to visit Spain? Thanks.

advice wanted for 10-12 day trip to Italy

My wife and I are planning a 10-12 day trip to Italy in late Sept. and are looking for advice. We are torn between a guided tour-type trip where the majority is planned out for you or just getting tickets and hotel rooms and making the plans while we are there. Any advice or experience? We are definitely going to visit Rome and Vatican City, probably Tuscany as well. We are hoping to enjoy a pretty laid-back trip but we don't want to get home and feel like we didn't experience enough of the culture.

3 Weeks in Europe

Let's say you're spending three weeks in Europe late this summer. The first week is in Denmark, the third is in Ireland. Where would you spend the second? You'd like to go somewhere off the beaten path (in other words not Paris, London, or Amsterdam), but don't want to spend too much time in transit. You'd rather go somewhere rural than urban, you have a limited budget, and you'd prefer culture to castles and cathedrals. Any suggestions?
