What are the best internet events for start-ups to attend?

What events should an internet start-up attend in the US and in Europe in order to get know and gain recognition? My European start-up let's you search video from over 30 video sites, collect them, and publish video channels. We are looking to promote ourselves at different events like Techcrunch50 and LeWeb.

I've searched for websites that index these events but didn't find one that listed them all.

So what are the events we should attend? And is there a website that indexes all thexe events?

Thanks for your help!
Peak vs Off Peak Electricity Hours

How much can I save by using off peak electricity in the US? How does this compare to those in Europe? I realize that not many utilities in the states offer off peak hours but i know some do. What percent do some of you save by using this option?

My google fu has failed and i am only getting really skimpy results.

Can anyone find the how much free energy we are loosing (hydro/wind/thermal) because it is being produced but not used?

What was a "Modern European Hotel" in the US in 1920?

What was a "Modern European Hotel" in the US in 1920? Hi all, I am researching a cartoonist who lived in an American Midwestern boarding house that advertised itself as a "Modern European Hotel" in 1920. Do you have any idea what that meant? What amenities might there have been? Bathrooms, kitchens, laundry? Did this indicate a "nice" place or a not-so-nice one?

My sense is that this was a cheaper boarding house, and people were mostly living there long-term. Using the census records I determined that fellow boarders included a bookbinder, a waitress, five salesmen (one travelling), a grocer, two musicians, an auto tire worker, a live-in staff of four, the proprietor, and eleven unemployed wives and children. Perhaps some of you have seen "Modern European Hotel" used in novels or some other source from that era? Any thoughts would be most appreciated. Thanks for your thoughts!

Help me be able to make mobile calls while visiting the US

I'd really like to be able to make mobile calls during my visit to the US.
I'm wondering what my best option is.
1. It would be nice if I'd be able to use my old european GSM. I'd buy a cheap prepaid SIM in the US
2. if that wouldn't work I'd like to buy a very cheap second hand cellphone in San Francisco and use it with a US prepaid SIM. So the questions are:
1. will my GSM cellphone work in the US? wikipedia tells me that the European frequencies are 900/1800/1900 but that only 1900 will work in the US. Will I be able to make decent calls with just one frequency available?
2. where can I find a very cheap possibly second hand cellphone in San Francisco if option 1 won't work? Are there thrift stores? I imagine that craigslist isn't an option since it's really not worthwhile to travel far to buy such a thing.
3. will my phone work in NY too? Or are providers/sims state specific?

Power of Attorney: How do I give it to my brother?

How can I give my brother in the US power of attorney when I am in the EU? Well, I’m living in Amsterdam and I need to give my brother in the US the power to open a business bank account in my name (being the sole proprietor). The bank has agreed to let him sign for me provided I get him power of attorney.

Being as I live in Europe, how can I get him this document as efficiently as possible? Not sure if there are forms online for this and/or if I need them notarized by someone (if so, who in Amsterdam can do this?).

Thanks a lot everyone! Sure do appreciate the advice -

Ever used bestfares.com? Gotten good airfare prices elsewhere?

Bestfares.com. Scam or worthwhile deals? Does anybody have experience with bestfares.com? It's a $60 annual membership to get, ostensibly, below "sale" prices on lots of fares. And they look cheap. 'm most interested in airfares only (US + Int'l) and not in cruises, Vegas junkets, or hotels. Is it worth it? Any other hot ideas for actually getting cheap fares to, say, Europe?

US Cordless Phone in Europe

PhoneFilter: I am thinking of buying a US-sold cordless phone and bringing it back to Europe. Other than voltage and frequency (which I've checked) is there any other reason why an American phone wouldn't work or work less in Europe (different ring-tone signals or Caller ID standards perhaps)?

US Playstation games USSR

Is there a difference between US and European playstation games? I want to get games for my nephew and brother-in-law who live in Moscow but my sister says that games bought here (the US) will not play there. I have googled and asked at a bunch of stores and have gotten many different answers. Has anyone here had any experiences with this? They could not use that playstation that they got here and had to get a new one over there but I thought that had more to do with the voltage and type of television.

Is there any way to make a european telephone work on the U.S. system? MORE INFO:

I recently got a b&o telephone from a friend. it's really nice and i'd hate to throw away or eBay without giving it one honest try to convert. the phone is assumingly on the european system as the wiring jack is the same, but buttons are different. I tried pulling it in, nothing happened.

Closed captioning vs subtitling while using DVDs from different regions

DVD question: I bought a European release of Frasier, season 1 - complete with subtitles etc. - but it seems like I'll have to buy seasons 2 -10 in the region 1 version.

Region compatibility is not an issue, but I wonder if "closed captioned" means that a DVD is subtitled, meaning: will I be able to get to those subtitles here in Europe, or do I need one of those hearing impaired set top boxes I've heard about (they seem to exist in UK and USA, maybe Canada as well)?

How do I fund spending a year in Europe?

I'd like to spend a year in Europe. How can I fund it? [more inside]. Here's some information that may be useful: I'd like to leave around September, and I'd like to spend my time studying, researching, or working, though I prefer not to work too terribly hard since this is my "last harrah". I marginally prefer Eastern Europe to Western Europe. (Though, in truth, anywhere but North America would be fine). By September, I will be through with all but my last semester of law school at the University of Michigan, a top 10 law school. I also have a BS in Telecommunications, a Masters in Project Management, and four years experience as a technology consultant in a no-name consulting firm. I recently lived in Beijing for a year on government scholarship, where I taught English.
