Modem/Router issues: why does our internet always cut out on one computer on the network, resulting in having to constantly plug/unplug the router to get it working again? [more inside]

I just wiped Vista from my Dell e521 and installed XP pro. Internet connection came right up. Unplugged the ethernet cable from the e521, plugged it into a c521 and did the exact same thing. Internet connection doesn't work. What could be wrong? [more inside]

I'm extending an wired ethernet LAN to a nearby house. I'm planning to connect a 50m patch cable to the existing bridge router, run it through an existing underground pipe to the other house where it would meet a switch and serve internet via two shorter patch cables (25m?) to two laptops in that house. Can anyone see a problem with this setup? [more inside]

How can I transmit a home network connection 600 feet across a forested piece of property? We have WildBlue with a Linksys router, and I'd like to access it from our guest cottage. I'm doubting we can run an Ethernet cable that far.

I just had (non-DSL, non-cable) internet access installed in my apartment through a local provider that has a T3 installed in my building. After install, I was getting 6MB/sec downloads, but the installer claimed I should be getting up to 35MB/sec, but my consumer-grade Linksys DSL router was unable to process that amount of throughput. 1. True? 2. Recommend a better router? [more inside]

How can I troubleshoot my Mac's ADSL connection? A few weeks ago my download speed suddenly dropped to about 4kilobits/sec after I tried to set up a firewall. I then turned off the firewall, but the speed hasn't returned. I'm running Mac OSX 10.3.4 on an eMac with 1GHz processor and 1GB RAM (confirmed intact by profiler) on a simple ADSL router (YahooBB, the leader in Japan) with an ethernet hub. Interestingly, upload is fine at 500 kbps, and my older slot-loading iMac 350MHz is zooming along fine on the same connection at 1150kbps download speed. TCP/IP settings are simple, DHCP auto-assigns the IP.

After trying hard to solve this problem, I gave up, and went out and bought another wireless adaptor for my 2nd PC. I now have both PCs connected to the wireless router, but transfer speeds between the two are a lot slower. Is it possible for me to use an ethernet connection for transferring stuff between these two PCs, and the separate wireless connections for everything else?
