So, following the advice on a few previous MeFi threads, I bought an old HP Laserjet 5M printer for $80 on eBay that promises to do everything I ever dreamt of (pretty printing, cheap, duplex--there seem to be lots of these around, coming off corporate leases). I recently got hold of a PowerMac 5500/2275 (the black one with the TV tuner), but the ethernet port has been upgraded, and is now a modem. While this is all very nice, I'd much prefer it to have LAN functionality. What, exactly, am I looking for on eBay to equip this Mac with a network card, and how difficult are they to install?

I'm helping some friends of mine set up a small house network with a cable router. They have two PC's running XP and an Imac with 96MB RAM, OS 8.1.

I do not know much at all about Macintosh computers, and I couldn't find any info regarding the ability to see files on the network, cross platform. I basically want to have access to the music files on one of the PCs from the Imac. [more inside]
