Craft room floor ideas and considerations

My new house will have a dedicated craft room. (squee!) But the floor is currently carpeted, and I intend to work on messy and incendiary crafts. I think I should probably rip up the carpet -- what should I do with the concrete underneath? [more inside]

What should I know before trying to rehabilitate my desk?

The huge pane of glass that was my desk's main surface broke, and I'd like to replace it. The return (also glass) is still in decent shape and I'd like the main desktop to match it as much as possible in hue and the shape of the edge. How much can I expect to pay for a suitable 7'×3' piece of glass, is there anything non-obvious I should ask about, and does anyone happen to know good glaziers in the Cambridge, MA area, or how to look for one besides flipping through Yelp? How to trick out a fiberglass animal for a public art project?

Our community, like many, will feature fiberglass animals this summer (a la the Chicago cows). I need to decorate a fiberglass fish such that it resembles a classic carousel animal. That entails sanding, painting, shaping the tack, adhering separately molded pieces, and finishing the whole shebang so it can be displayed outdoors. I'm crafty, but I've never done anything like this before... so I have questions. Calling car restorers, boaters, prop-makers, and others skilled in the dark art of fiberglass fabrication! DIY handbag repair

The strap of my handbag broke and I'm looking to repair it but how? As you can see by this photo, the short metal bit fits into the metal cap. The metal cap holds the end of the braided strap but the strap does not fill the cap entirely; the end where the opening is is hollow. Would filling it with some kind of glue or epoxy work? But which kind? [more inside]

DIY metal toys on the cheap.

I love these retro assemblages. Is it plausible to create small metal assemblage sculptures using nothing but patience and industrial epoxy? and if so,
  • What epoxies would you recommend?
  • Are there sites that cheerfully discuss this sort of industrial craftiness? Thanks!
