This school year my kids both have to start school early, so we all have to be up at 6:30am. We're not morning people, and the kids especially walk out the door tired and cranky. How can we start our day feeling positive, upbeat, and energised? Tips please! I'm thinking music choices, activities, or other things you might do to start your day right. [more inside]
What products are on the market that are the opposite of energy drinks? Gas stations and small convenience stores are replete with small bottles of 5 hour energy and cans of Rockstar, but not so much the opposite. I'm looking for examples of drinks which are marketed with the effect of being relaxing or calming.
I'm doing some career exploration and pontificating. Are there software companies that produce products for use in environmental/green energy fields? Is this a thing? [more inside]
What activities or pursuits do you find more rejuvenating and relaxing than sitting idly in front of the computer or watching TV? I'm looking for things that I can do on a regular basis that will leave my mental and physical batteries feeling recharged rather than drained.
So this last year has been quite tough. And I find that often in the evenings all I want to do is sit at a computer and consume news/videos/blogs. Well, that's not quite true. Actually I'd rather be creating. But I can't find the energy to lift myself up and turn from consumer to creator. I'm just too tired. [more inside]
Greetings, hive mind! I asked this question earlier and your advice was great. But after leaving at 7:15 am and getting home about 7:30 pm, all I want to do is collapse in front of the TV, eat junk food and drink a beer. Help! [more inside]
You have a day job but you really wish you could be a serious artist and produce stunning work. How do you find time and energy after work to paint when all you want to do is to go to bed or switch off your brain? [more inside]
To do the things I want and need to do, I need a steady baseline of reliable physical energy. The way I do things now - in bursts, with a fair amount of reliance on mood and inconsistently available physical energy (through serial immersion in different kinds of projects, with downtime required between efforts) is not amazingly effective. Have you gone from that kind of rhythm to something more regular, that allows you to (e.g.) easily switch between kinds of activities, on demand? How? [more inside]
Did you used to be a low-energy person, and then changed something and you're now a high-energy person? What did you change to get more energy? [more inside]
I'm working on building a more vibrant social life, but I'm going against the grain of my introvert tendencies. It takes a tremendous amount of energy for me to meet and hang out with friends, and I want to have more energy to do this. Help this homebody create the energy to be more social.. [more inside]
I have a small home windmill and wish to extract even the tiniest bit of heat from the 12v DC electricity it generates. The heat would be used to help warm water. [more inside]
For me, 2015 is a year that I'm keen to see come to an end soon. I've been working stupidly long hours in a job I hate, and though I'm now changing jobs I won't — for financial reasons — be able to take any vacations before the end of the year. How can I go about getting some of my energy back whilst still working a 40-hour week. [more inside]
I am looking for as many examples of wind energy in movies as possible. No limits in terms of country of origin, language, genre, etc. [more inside]
So, most electrical heaters are extremely close to 100% efficient in terms of converting electrical power into heat. But is this true of fan heaters as well? In other words, how much energy goes into operating the fan as compared to the heating of the elements? [more inside]

This is somewhat of a strange post, but I thought that I would post it anyways. The bottom line is that I never get tired anymore. I still sleep at night, but I don't feel any different when I go to bed then when I wake up in the morning. For nine years I used to be on Adderall for ADHD and I have been off of it for almost two years now. [more inside]
I started cymbalta in February. I have been diagnosed with dysthymia, low vitamin D, diabetes, and Hashimotos. I take metformin for diabetes and klonopin for anxiety as needed, which is once or twice a month. Two weeks later I had a friend staying with me and while she was there I woke up regularly. I ate breakfast every morning and had a nice routine going. I got a lot of exercise and felt less avoidant and irritable than usual. [more inside]
I've got a crawlspace in a 1940 home that is reasonably warm and dry, but I want to seal against airflow and spiders. Is it crazy not to insulate as well? Everything I've found talks about sealing AND insulating. I feel like I can get the sealing done now, and might insulate at a later date. [more inside]
Since quitting caffeine a few weeks ago, I've lost all motivation to do anything except lie in bed doing nothing all day. [more inside]
Asking for a friend: I have been in a challenging engineering graduate program for about three years now. Two years ago, I was diagnosed with acid reflux / GERD. It seemed to be chronic but I found I could manage it with OTC medications and eliminating coffee and other caffeinated drinks from my diet. If I do this and don't overeat, I barely notice any symptoms. [more inside]
Share your experiences with heater replacement and home energy audit rebates. We are in the process of vetting contractors to replace our home heater - an oil to gas conversion - and one of them is proposing some home energy remediations, citing saving by taking advantage of NJ's clean energy program. We live in a 3BR townhouse. Our electricity usage spiked really dramatically in December, and it's stayed up in January. I cannot fathom what is causing such a spike, but I don't know a lot about electricity usage. Details below. [more inside]

The other day I read this thing about ATOMIC GARDENING And apparently this controlled mutation is the reason we have ruby red grapefruits. So my question is what ELSE is atomic that I didn't know about? Is there anything else using radiation unconventionally or atomic technology in novel places I didn't suspect?
I have a very mentally taxing/stimulating job. When I get home from work, I can't muster the mental energy to do anything but surf the internet. Even a supper with more steps than 2 (open and heat) seem overwhelming. Physically, I feel fine. I'm not physically tired, just completely mentally tapped out. It's starting to cause some tension in my relationship because I am no longer pulling my weight around the house. Leaving my job is not an option: it pays well and I love the work. I am looking for ways to have more mental energy at the end of the day to perform multi step tasks around the house and/or socialize. Any tips? Organization? Meditation? How do you get (more) stuff done? Thanks!
I noticed something about myself yesterday that I think I need help with. Basically, no matter how happy I am at the start of the day, I am often emotionally and physically depleted by the end of it. How can I maintain my 8:30am levels of optimism, competence and energy so they're not completely gone by the afternoon? [more inside]

I was reading something by someone who "did the math" for leaving a 400 Watt PC on for an entire year, and I thought his rate of 37 cents per kilowatt-hour was high. [more inside]

Our house is a small Cape, with a crawlspace attic. We’re going to get a home energy audit in the next couple of weeks, and the insulation of the attic is of particular concern for us, as it really gets quite warm on our second floor. Can I get your insulation wisdom here? [more inside]

Why am I getting this medical effect from vitamin pills, and should i be worried? [more inside]
We were approached at a street fair by a somewhat high-pressure salesman. In its self something of a red flag. However, their rates and espoused business practices were intriguing. On paper (online), they seem like a good choice, especially if I'm interested in green energy. I am aware that they're owned by NRG, but this doesn't put me off on its own. [more inside]
It feels like other people's emotional energy is causing me muscle soreness. What can I do? [more inside]

Mrs. HeroZero and I just moved into a lovely new Chicago apartment about two months ago. However, our landlady (who lives on the third floor of this three-flat apartment building) has passionate environmentalist feelings. Though we share many aspects of her politics, it's made certain aspects of living here difficult. [more inside]
I've had a difficult time over the last while and I feel like I've completely run out of steam. How can I keep going and accomplish all I need to? I feel all my motivation is gone and frankly I just want to hibernate but obviously I can't. Have you ideas about how to keep putting one foot in front of the other? [more inside]
It's spring and the plants and trees which have been bare for months are bursting into life. I've been thinking it must take a lot of energy for a tree to go from having no leaves at all to being covered in too many to count in a relatively short period of time. But how much energy exactly? My friend theorizes that a miniaturized dam, which he calls "The Waterboy", would be a great form of alternative energy and wanted to get feedback on whether this idea would actually work. This document he drafted up describes The Waterboy further and includes calculations.
Stephen Hawking has proposed that our universe has a total energy of zero, which allowed it to Bang into existence without violating any laws. Is this thesis falsifiable? If so, what is an example of something that might happen, which would contradict the zero-energy hypothesis? [more inside]

is this ConEd solutions on the level, as providing more eco-friendly electricity than my regular Con Edison provider? What are the pros and cons? The agent who is trying to sell me this says my bill will go up a little. This is for residential usage in New York City. Any experience or information on this is much appreciated.
