Help me feel patriotic in the face of four years of Trump

I have largely NOPE’d out of election coverage since the trend lines at 538 started moving the wrong way. I’m looking for media -of any sort- that can help provide some uplift about the country during this time and (potentially) during the next four years. Speeches, books, essays, poetry, music, TV, whatever. These could have a grimness to them, but should not be a pure critique. They should be about the country and its people enduring and recovering. Thanks!

Shortening "warm up" time for running and cycling

On a long bike ride a few weeks ago, my husband made an offhand comment that whenever I tell him I think it'll be a short ride/run/hike right after starting out, he ignores it because I always seem to catch a second wind right at 45 minutes and then I am ready to continue on with intense exercise for several more hours. I've started paying attention during my workouts and he's totally right. Those first 45 minutes really suck, though. Is there any way to train my body to shorten this "warm up" time? [more inside]

Best shape EVER!!!! Snow flurries.

I am looking to get the healthiest I have ever been. I am specifically looking for workout assistance. I am absolutely not looking for any diet advice. How can I build cycling endurance?

This is a cycling and fitness question. Three years ago some punk stole my cheap but lightweight yard-sale-bike and I replaced it with a new Trek 7100 hybrid. It's kind of lumbering and heavy but I like it. Last week I started a class on Mondays that's 4.5 miles from where I live. The ride is 99% flat but nearly killed me last week and this week, too. Help! [more inside]

Lost my endurance

I have never been in good shape from a cardio-vascular perspective but something is getting much worse for me now. I am roughly fifty pounds overweight and when I go to exercise I find that I can't make it for very long whether that be jogging, using the elliptical, or biking. [more inside]

après moi, le déluge

I'm in the process of entering a huge and long overdue stage of transition in my life, which is guaranteed to make me miserable for the next 2-3+ years in addition to costing me thousands of dollars. (Whee!) Since I'm lucky enough to have advance notice before the proverbial trigger is pulled, I'm trying to put together tricks and treats to make the months ahead a bit less awful. When you're having a tough time and you know it's going to last for the indefinite future, what can you do to help soften the blows? [more inside]

Strength training options

I want to improve my endurance exercise by strength training. According to research I should go for a high weight very low rep program. I know there are a few commonly recommended books for that like Starting Strength and The New Rules of Lifting (for Women). I wonder if there is a way to do this without going to a gym or buying expensive equipment, and without following a whole comprehensive program that assumes that weight lifting will be the focus of my life. Book recommendation for cycling nutrition

Book recommendation for cycling nutrition: looking for something that details on and off the bike nutrition and cites studies and the physiology of what's happening when you ride/train. Something that seriously discusses supplementation, but steers clear of the hard stuff. I am an avid, but amateur, cyclist that wants something readable but not totally dumbed down.

The science of the "second wind"

About a week ago, I started jogging a mile a day and already I've noticed I've been getting kind of a second wind maybe 2/3 of the way in and my time has been going down quite a bit. Does anyone know the reason or the science behind the body getting used to being pushed? Also, does anyone know the proper breathing techniques for runners? I have some unreliable information saying it should all be through the nose. Need a second opinion.
