I'm finally retiring my dad's virus-laden PC running XP with a new iMac. Is there any way to migrate his old settings from the PC over to a VMWare instance of XP running on the iMac in case he must use a PC-only app after the upgrade to a new machine? [more inside]

Recent switcher with iMac Intel Core Duo (purchased new in August). I have been trying to get some emulators up and running, but have really run into difficulties. I was able to accomplish this years ago on the PC, but the Mac hasn't proven as easy as I thought. [more inside]

OK, I've got MAME installed, and a (pretty much) complete (15Gb) set of ROMs. I've played my old favorites... Galaxian, Galaga, Gauntlet, Sonic, Mario... but now I'm daunted by the thousands of games I have to choose from. So what should I play next? (assume if I don't have the ROM I can get it)

I was wondering about the exact legality of distributing video game ROMS on the internet? Is it legal? Does the "delete it in 24 hours" statement really shield a site from legal action? All ROMS sites seem really shady with a lot of layers of pages to go through to get to their content. Some insist it is perfectly fine, while others disagree I searched and only found these two threads. Thanks!

I'm building a video game emulation machine. What would be the best USB gamepad I could buy that would work with Linux? I don't have anything newer than Genesis/SNES games, so it only really needs six face buttons and two shoulder buttons. I really (really) liked the Xbox 360 controllers when I tried them at E3, but I don't want to wait until they're available. I also like the X-Arcade, but I don't think I could excuse the pricetag.

My dad just switched from a Hewlett-Packard to a Mac mini. His clinic keeps its records and email accessible via a dial-up network, which he would access on his PC with AccuTerm's terminal emulation software, emulating a Viewpoint A2 Enhanced session. What are his options on the Mac? Is there a solution that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? [more inside]

Is there any web-based service that will image (render) a webpage using specific rendering engines, and then email or display the result? I'm developing on a Mac, and experiencing some weird Explorer 6 CSS problems, and don't have a PC handy to troubleshoot.
