Tell me your go-to songs that make you cry.

I feel many emotions when I am listening to music - happiness, melancholy, goosebump-y, etc. - but I rarely find albums that can bring me to tears. I just bought a Non-English album that brought me to (mostly joyful) tears many times; the experience was almost cathartic. Please give me songs (in any language, or even without any singing) that provoked a strong emotional response in you the first time you heard it - I'm talking powerful feelings like awe, joy, sadness, etc. that would make you tear up or outright cry. Need help sorting out a very complicated friendship

Just over a year ago, I met this guy, let's call him A, via email. He got in touch with me requesting some of my tutoring services and asked if I were willing to teach him via Skype. This tutoring relationship collapsed after a few months due to a number of factors but he insisted we stay in touch on a more personal level. I quickly learned that he'd gone through a lot in life: abuse, estranged family, homelessness. I wanted to learn about his life and be there for him because it became apparent that he didn't have any fixtures of support in his life whatsoever. The nature of our friendship became more and more intense. All-night phone calls became the norm and it began to have a significant effect on my ability to function in my already hectic life. After several months of this, all of the following have happened: I told him that I felt our friendship was dysfunctional and that we should cease contact, he told me that he couldn't live without me and said he was in love with me. And then made a last-minute trip to visit me. I'm so confused and lost as to how to handle this situation and desperately need perspective. Big ol' wall of text inside. [more inside]

How do I work out what to do next, without disrespecting my marriage.

Out of nowhere it seems, I’m considering asking my wife for a divorce and I can’t figure out if its because I met someone else I feel I’d really like to get to know or because I’ve realized that we just aren’t meant to be. Or am I just being a douche for even considering throwing away what I’m confident almost anyone would agree is a marriage to a great woman? Sorry for the long story… My wife is a great person – of course – why would you marry someone you didn’t think this about? The list is huge – she’s smart, funny, empathetic, gets me, is very beautiful and will one day I know make a really wonderful mother. I know most would say all of this about their spouse, but even with rational eyes, the above is true. She has bad points too for sure, but no need to list those off as well. We’ve only been married about 18 months, but together for some time before this. [more inside]

It's a big, good, really big, good vocabulary.

I can't remember a word. It denotes the emotion of recognizing that another person shares the same form of subjective experience as you. When I read it, it implied, to me, a poetic opposite of solipsism. I believe it was single, simple word, English-sounding, and not merely a string of Latin or Greek roots. Seems like I read the definition on Mefi. Can you help me recall this word?

I don't want to cry, but I also don't want to have to not pay attention

I am an epic ugly crier, and I cry incredibly easily. I have always been this way, and a lot of my family are the same way. We attribute it to my grandmother, who we always joked must have her tear ducts connected to her bladder. Happy things, sad things, frustration, excitement. Not pain for some reason, but just about any emotion will make me cry. When I really get going I hyperventillate, lose the ability to talk (relating to the hyperventilating I guess), my skin goes super blotchy, and man... it is just ugly. And it takes a long time to calm back down. Added bonus is that I usually top all this off with an epic cry headache afterwards. This is a problem because I am getting married in a month and I seriously don't want to be ugly crying my face off the entire time. As it stands I can't even READ the ceremony without getting teary. I have no idea how I am ever going to get through saying my vows. [more inside]

Funeral etiquette: I'm not sad but I probably should be?

In a few days I will be attending my grandmother's funeral in the south. While I love her very much, we were never particularly close. Based on my past experiences with these situations, I know myself well enough to know that I most likely won't be crying or even really upset at this funeral. Please help me prepare so I don't seem callous or further upset my grieving family. [more inside]

Please help me help my friend deal with his anger

My best friend in the world has serious anger issues. He throws tantrums, bellows and sometimes just insults me as a way to blow off steam. He's been seriously depressed for some years now, and therapy hasn't helped dramatically so far. I've tried to set some boundaries in terms of how he acts towards me, and his girlfriend is doing the same, but he says he doesn't know of any other ways to deal with how he's feeling. What resources can I refer him to? [more inside]

Was this experiment about emotions actually done?

I was recently in an Emotional Intelligence course where the facilitator discussed the "Three Chair Experiment," where three people sat beside each other without saying a word for 10 minutes. The result was the experiment was that all three people would eventually take on the emotions of the "emotionally strongest" individual - ie if someone was really happy, the other two would end up being happy too, even without talking. Or if someone was really angry, the other two would end up also being angry after the 10 minutes. I thought it was really interesting so I googled it, but couldn't find any more information. Has anyone else heard about this experiment? Are there any sites or papers out there that provide more information about this?

? Movie scenes with quick cuts and dynamic editorial?

Hi - film and editorial buffs - I'm looking for examples of movie scenes that capture a feeling through a barrage of edits - lots of quick cuts strung together to add up to tell an exciting story. Like a great dinner scene, for example, that could capture the feeling of being there... This is to show as an example of how film and editing can convey mood and energy viscerally. I don't have a great knowledge of films, so I'm coming up blank. Any help would be massively appreciated.

My personality needs a review! It's getting out of control! Help please!

I'm scared of what my personality is coming to be. I recently broke up with my wife that I love but had no passion (kissing) with (2.5 yrs). I feel like I've controlled her a lot, do not want her to express a lot of her own self because I am very meticulous and strategic about my words, how I talk, how I present myself, etc. I think that's the same thing that happened with my ex girlfriend of two years. They love me for who I am, I'm a fun loving guy, good looking, good personality, morals, understanding, extremely caring, etc, but I'm wayyy too much of a presence and seemingly controlling to my loved ones.
