My best friend in the world has serious anger issues. He throws tantrums, bellows and sometimes just insults me as a way to blow off steam. He's been seriously depressed for some years now, and therapy hasn't helped dramatically so far. I've tried to set some boundaries in terms of how he acts towards me, and his girlfriend is doing the same, but he says he doesn't know of any other ways to deal with how he's feeling. What resources can I refer him to?

My theory is that, of all the emotions, people find anger the hardest to deal with. I know people don't like strong emotions in general, but they seem to be worse at coping with others' anger than in the case of other strong emotions. Why is that?

I was recently in an Emotional Intelligence course where the facilitator discussed the "Three Chair Experiment," where three people sat beside each other without saying a word for 10 minutes. The result was the experiment was that all three people would eventually take on the emotions of the "emotionally strongest" individual - ie if someone was really happy, the other two would end up being happy too, even without talking. Or if someone was really angry, the other two would end up also being angry after the 10 minutes. I thought it was really interesting so I googled it, but couldn't find any more information. Has anyone else heard about this experiment? Are there any sites or papers out there that provide more information about this?

Hi - film and editorial buffs - I'm looking for examples of movie scenes that capture a feeling through a barrage of edits - lots of quick cuts strung together to add up to tell an exciting story. Like a great dinner scene, for example, that could capture the feeling of being there... This is to show as an example of how film and editing can convey mood and energy viscerally.
I don't have a great knowledge of films, so I'm coming up blank. Any help would be massively appreciated.

A girl I dated(ish) for a few weeks dumped me because she wanted less emotion in the relationship(-type-thing)/the sex. This, and the ensuing discussion, has shaken my confidence in finding a compatible match... Do most young 20s women prefer less emotion in a relationship, and see sex as a physical, recreational activity?

In situations where I am stressed, both minorly and majorly, I sometimes get totally overwhelmed by the things I hear and see. It makes my heart race and I become unable to speak or think. Is this normal, or could it be indicative of a psychiatric disorder?
I know, you are not my doctor. And I plan to see a therapist once I can afford one, but that won't be for a few months.

How do I cope emotionally with severe lower back pain?
I have seen a doctor, and they said that I am doing all the right things, but it will be between 2 to 10 weeks before it stops.
In the meantime,
everything really, really hurts. Cuddling my partner. Standing. Walking. Grocery shopping. Driving. Going to the laundromat. Making the bed....

I'm scared of what my personality is coming to be. I recently broke up with my wife that I love but had no passion (kissing) with (2.5 yrs). I feel like I've controlled her a lot, do not want her to express a lot of her own self because I am very meticulous and strategic about my words, how I talk, how I present myself, etc. I think that's the same thing that happened with my ex girlfriend of two years. They love me for who I am, I'm a fun loving guy, good looking, good personality, morals, understanding, extremely caring, etc, but I'm wayyy too much of a presence and seemingly controlling to my loved ones.

Can anyone with good academic-library-fu point me toward an article that argues for cultural differences between how certain keys or chords are interpreted affectively? Specifically, I'm looking for a source for the claim that perceiving minor chords as sad is specifically a Western thing, and that non-Westerners don't perceive minor chords as sad and/or they perceive other types of chords as sad (or whatever).
