Can I learn to write emails more quickly?

How can I learn to write emails quickly without agonizing over wording? I feel like it takes me ten times longer than it should. Even a simple two-sentence reply often takes me five minutes to compose and send, because I'll rewrite each sentence at least 3 times, then re-read it and tweak the wording endlessly. [more inside]

A dumbphone with email access?

Not-so-smart-phone filter: I'm looking for a Sprint-compatible cellphone with a full keyboard and the ability to read/send email. The catch is, I don't need (and actively don't want) more internet access than this; I'm already too connected as it is! Does a phone like this exist? Or is there a way I can juryrig one, as someone who's only half tech-savvy? Am I doomed to a flip-phone and a separate pocket email-reader thingy? [more inside]

What's the best way to migrate from local to IMAP in Thunderbird?

I need to migrate about 5gb+ of email from the local folders in Thunderbird to IMAP in Thunderbird. There are a lot of folders and a lot of subfolders, and migrating them "manually" has really been a pain in the ass. I've got about a third of the folders over, but I'd love to hear a better solution that will actually keep the folder structure in place correctly, not randomly. Perhaps there's an add-on for this? Cheers.

A Receipts Scanner needed with 'scan to email' functionality

I have been asked to find a receipts scanner. It should be able to work preferably as a stand-alone device (so not attached to a PC) and email receipts to an email address ('scan to email' so digital copies of receipts can go into an expense system), cost a few hundred dollars and be easy to use. So far I am not having much luck - there is the Neat scanners ( but they seem to require a Mac.

How do I thank multiple interviewers for a single position?

I want to send a post-interview thank you email but I am a little unclear as to the best way of going about it. I had five 30 minute sessions with one to two employees each; the last session was with the head of the group I'd be working for. Should I send one email to all employees, an email to each session group, an email to only the senior interviewers (3 people), or some other iteration?

Help my coworker's husband read his email on his phone and computer.

My coworker's husband has an old Mindspring/Comcast email account which he checks on a PC at home. He set up his email account to download only new messages onto a device -- so if he accesses his email account from a phone, he then doesn't see any of these new emails the next time he uses his PC. I have been asked to fix this, and I'm not sure what type of settings he has set up. Do you have any ideas off the top of your head? [more inside]

Remote Management

How do I win friends and influence people when I don't know what they look like? My new job requires me to manage client projects remotely. Most of my time with clients is spent either in conference calls, one-on-one phone calls, or communicating through email and Basecamp. I usually have no idea what these people look like. As a project manager I need to keep the client moving towards the finish line by making decisions quickly and getting things done on time. My question is two fold: 1) How do I motivate and influence a team that works for another organization?, and 2) How do I best do this being remote? I am looking for techniques and tools that will help me be an effective, remote, 3rd party project manager. If it matters I work for a Software as a Service company. My clients are implementing our software on their websites. The client may or may not have a dedicated project manager. Help me drive things forward!

The Mystery of the Folding Chair

Email mystery: I run a theatre company called Folding Chair Classical Theatre. The company's email address is the first two words of its name, an at sign, and gmail dot com. For the last several years, I've been getting emails (maybe four a year) from people trying to order folding chairs. The wording of these emails is all very similar to each other, which makes me wonder if this is some kind of scam. But if so, what's the angle? [more inside]
