Our company has been using Gmail’s SMTP servers without issue for the last couple years for sending our ecommerce clients emails that read “A customer has placed an online order on your web site. To access it go to https://www.sometime.com/.” - Well, this week Gmail started blocking our outgoing messages as spam. [more inside]

I would like to use the new release of Thunderbird (2.0) with my Yahoo account and am looking for a free SMTP service. I know Gmail lets you use its servers but apparently changes the 'From' field of the message to username@gmail.com for all messages. Is there any other service that I can use, apart from my ISP's (I shuffle between work, school and home). [more inside]

SMTP Gateway? My ISP just (an hour ago) stopped forwarding email from subscribers unless the "From" address matched their own mail service. This means I cannot use my own domain name (hosted elsewhere). Any solutions? I can't change ISP (it's the only cable company in this part of town); my hosting company doesn't provide SMTP, only POP for incoming mail; I used to send email out directly from my own server, but these days many people block mail that's not from a machine with appropriate naming info; setting the "Reply-To" header works, but is really ugly and might not be respected by all mail clients. Thanks.

Say you've got a domain and a server, but the account didn't come with any POP3 setup. Assuming you're not going to abandon that hosting provider for one reason or another, what's the best 3rd party POP account provider? And is this a huge headache?
