I'm helping a friend who has started up a new business. We're having trouble getting their e-mail to syncronise across three different devices: a desktop running Windows 7, a laptop running Windows 8 and an Android-based phone, all using IMAP. What are we doing wrong? [more inside]

I need to migrate about 5gb+ of email from the local folders in Thunderbird to IMAP in Thunderbird. There are a lot of folders and a lot of subfolders, and migrating them "manually" has really been a pain in the ass. I've got about a third of the folders over, but I'd love to hear a better solution that will actually keep the folder structure in place correctly, not randomly. Perhaps there's an add-on for this? Cheers.
Gmail just asked me if I wanted to import all my mail from another email account of mine. How can I figure out if I've ever told Gmail I own this account? Or is this just google being creepy as hell again? [more inside]

I newly purchased an iPhone4 on Vodafone in the UK. Gmail email seems to work beautifully, in a "push" fashion. Yahoo email ( a non paid account on yahoo.com) just does not seem to do it in "push" fashion. Email is erratic. This is despite resetting "all settings" and re installing account. Any solutions guys? Does anyone know the yahoo IMAP settings, as I am told that solves the problem? Thanks
What's the best service to have a bunch of users sign up for email accounts? I'll be teaching an intro to computers (Macs) class, and I'm sure people will want to use email. So, for people who don't already have an email address, I'll go through registering for an email account. But I really want to show them Mail.app so the service should have excellent IMAP support. After reading this AskMe, I decided to use Mac's Mail program to keep copies of my messages on my gmail account on my computer. However, I wanted to use the "IMAP" option to keep copies of all my mail both on the web, in gmail, and on my computer, in Mac Mail. Instead, something else happened and now I'm in trouble. My company recently switched from a standard POP mail server to having GMail as our MX server and hosting all our business accounts. Overall the benefits are quite positive, but I'm having some usage issues that bug me. Can you help me use gmail better? Specific questions inside. [more inside]
I like to think of myself as somewhat of a power user when it comes to mail servers, SSH, Gmail, and Outlook, but this one has me stumped! I use Outlook for both work and personal e-mail, but while on the network at work our ports are pretty locked down. How might I access my Gmail account via IMAP in Outlook while on a locked-down network? Ports 25, 110, 143, 587, 993, etc., are all blocked. In order to access personal e-mail, I connect via SSH (PuTTY) to my DreamHost mail server and tunnel POP/SMTP (ports 110 and 25) traffic over that SSH session. Is there any way I could use that SSH connection to tunnel to Gmail's servers for IMAP access as well? If not using that tunnel, is there another way? I can access Gmail through a web browser, but my objective is to be able to collect all my e-mail in Outlook as well. Thanks!
Escabechette has years of old e-mail stored on an old school account that's soon going to close. We want to move all this e-mail to her gmail account. Apparently this is now easy because "GMail supports IMAP." But I haven't succeeded in finding instructions (on AskMeFi or elsewhere) which are suitable for someone, like me, who doesn't know what the word "IMAP" means. Is this really easy? And can you explain to this naif how to do it? [more inside]

I manage a small network of users, and currently we are using Google Apps for our domain, and getting mail via POP. I'd very much like to fake IMAP access to Google by creating an intermediary/shadow account (either on our web host, or on our local Apple XServe running OS X 10.4 Server) and configuring it like so: 1. Set Google address to forward automatically to shadow account. 2. Set desktops to check mail through shadow account, but send email through Google's SMTP servers, to keep conversations in tact. I want to run a mail server on my computer so that I can feed email from different POP accounts into an IMAP account. The weird part is I don't care to access by IMAP over the web, but I do want to POP it into GMail. Confused? Me too. [more inside]

Webmail IMAP client: like SquirrelMail, but smaller, for a mobile phone? My new phone (S/E w810i) does "email", in the sense that it can talk to a small range of pre-selected partners like Yahoo or AOL. I'm looking for a web-based IMAP client that I can use to access my own IMAP server. It should be something along the lines of MIR, but that allows writing mail as well as reading it. I like SquirrelMail a lot, but it doesn't have a non-framed, minimal view.
UW IMAP stores inboxes in /var/spool/mail/[username]. When I delete mail from my inbox (using Apple Mail), a copy of the message is left behind in that file, and it gets huge, even though it appears to have actually been removed from my inbox. Is there any way to prevent this happening, or at least to compact it?
